POSITION PURPOSE

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Washington houses several transportation-related centers, including the Pacific Northwest Transportation Consortium (PacTrans) and the Northwest Tribal Transportation Assistance Program (NW TTAP) Center. This position will oversee the daily operations of both centers, including a collaborative staff.

PacTrans is the Regional University Transportation Center (UTC) for Federal Region 10, focusing on developing human-centered and transformative multimodal mobility solutions. The NW TTAP Center provides workforce development support for Tribal communities to address transportation needs.

The Assistant Director (Manager of Program Operations) reports directly to the Centers’ Director and is responsible for day-to-day operations and administrative management. This includes overseeing budgets, finance, communications, partnerships, event facilitation, workforce development, and research management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Center Leadership 40%

Develop short- and long-term goals for the success of each Center.Oversee day-to-day operations, including budget & finance, workforce development, research, and outreach.Organize financial support operations including budgeting and fiscal processing.Organize center events following each Center’s operations plan.Develop policies and procedures for program success.Maintain an annual work plan for each Center.

Staff Supervision 30%Direct work of support staff and oversee daily tasks.Set expectations and evaluate staff performance.Supervise fiscal management of financial resources.Oversee workforce development and training staff.Supervise communications and marketing staff.Oversee research management staff.

Relationship Building and Cultivation 20%Build and enhance partnerships by attending meetings and conferences.Serve as each Center’s representative at events.Communicate with the public about ongoing initiatives.Follow up with new connections to establish partnerships.

Communication 10%Communicate regularly with each Center’s Board of Direction.Communicate with internal collaborators about opportunities.Communicate with external collaborators on upcoming activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or relevant fields.Four or more years of experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSExperience in a university setting, with transportation or urban planning.Ability to plan and coordinate meetings and events.Ability to exercise diplomacy and communicate effectively.Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster's degree in civil engineering, urban planning, or related field.Experience working in university centers.
