SUMMARYWarbird Healthcare is partnering with a 3-hospital, not-for-profit, regional healthcare system in the Southeast to identify its next Director of Pharmacy. This is a full-time, direct-hire position in a family-friendly community with great schools, excellent shopping, and recreational activities.Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Director of Pharmacy will manage and supervise all aspects of pharmacy operations, including medication management for three hospital pharmacy locations as well as one hospital-owned retail pharmacy. The successful candidate will provide customized pharmacy program solutions that improve patient care while reducing costs across all locations, including 340B direct management. Specialties include anesthesiology, psychiatry, oncology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, urology, rheumatology, podiatry, and more.RESPONSIBILITIESThis person will oversee 15 pharmacists and support staff.Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols:Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote safe, appropriate and cost-effective medication use.Develops and maintains a medical staff-approved formulary.Supervises medication storage and preparation areas throughout the facility; establishes specifications for the safe and secure storage of medications, chemicals, and biologicals.Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of safe medication use processes throughout the organization.Provides for the educational needs of healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply and integrity of the medication supply; establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals, and biologicals.Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock.Ensures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintained in department files.Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:Supervises all pharmacy personnel; recruits, interviews, promotes, disciplines, and terminates pharmacy staff.Develops job descriptions and performance standards; evaluates, and counsels staff members on their performance.Prepares work schedules and monitors workload statistics; maintains appropriate staffing levels that match workload and promote patient safety.Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.Prepares a pharmacy budget annually.Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines.Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets.Ensures preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to administration in accordance with policy.Administers reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.Ensures compliance with health-system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services as well as with all applicable federal/state/local laws, rules, and regulations.Integrates the department into the organization’s primary functions:Develops and implements a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization.Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services.Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services, improves medication-use safety, and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.Participates in all committees/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with staff members and within the community.Maintains competence required for current job title/position:Maintains current pharmacist licensure.Attends management meetings.Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.Performs all staff pharmacist duties when needed.Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.REQUIREMENTSGraduation from an ACPE accredited School of PharmacyCurrent State Licensure by Board of Pharmacy as a PharmacistParenteral CertificationPrevious management experience in hospital setting.Previous experience in a retail pharmacy setting.Knowledge and working experience with 340B drug program
