FACILITIES CHIEF ENGINEER
Position Summary:
For over 35 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+ by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services. The Facilities Chief Engineer is a hands-on position and is responsible for maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting of all building equipment and systems, the performance of preventive and unscheduled maintenance and maintaining the physical plant.
Job Specific Duties:
Responsible for the proper operation of the life safety, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems for the building
Oversee daily work of maintenance technicians and trades technicians including electrical, plumbing and HVAC
Maintains proper operation of all the building equipment as directed
Responds to service requests in such a manner as to reduce work orders and eliminate recurring problems
Uses campus wide work order system to complete preventative maintenance assignments and unscheduled maintenance tasks
Inspects buildings for problems, troubleshoots possible problems, and provides solutions for repairs
Participates in plant maintenance training programs and initiatives as suggested by the Director of Facilities and Engineering.
Comply with all safety and environmental procedures, including hazardous control, lockout – tag out programs, and other building awareness programs
Inspects for building repairs, make repairs as necessary, and escalate more complex repairs to leadership or outside vendors
Responsible for development and facilitation of the preventative maintenance program cross campus
Responsible to conduct regular environmental rounds with leaders of each service area and ensure follow through on identified maintenance needs
Responds to emergencies in the building on off shifts
Responds to radio calls promptly and professionally
Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements
Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills
Complies with protection of health information (HIPAA) safeguards
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English
Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and staff meetings as directed
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
2-5 years’ experience with plant operation, including life safety, utilities management, and equipment management
2-5 years of supervisory experience
Licensed/Certification in one of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry or HVAC certification
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Proficient with computer software programs
