OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking highly qualified senior science writers/editors to research, write, and edit evidence-based health content for health professionals, researchers, policymakers, plain language for consumers, and general audiences. Topics include those related to diseases and conditions of the bones, joints, muscles, and skin. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing accurate, engaging content for dissemination through a variety of channels, including websites, long- and short-form publications, science journals, brochures, fact sheets, and social media platforms.

DUTIES

Write and/or update evidence-based content on a variety of topics related to diseases/conditions of the bones, joints, muscles, and skin

Provide oversight and strategic direction for the development of resources for various target audiences

Contribute to the full range of product development activities, including conceptualizing product formats, developing publication rationale and proposal documentation, developing substantive outlines, and translating highly scientific information into clear and actionable content

Perform extensive research by reviewing published literature, collaborating with subject matter experts, and reviewing legislative and regulatory guidance

Assess and incorporate reviewer feedback

Prepare literature reviews and annotated bibliographies and conduct environmental scans

Review, revise, and edit content for accuracy, readability, plain language, and cultural competence

Fact check content written by others and ensure overall cohesiveness, innovation, and compliance with language and style guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in the sciences, public health or related field. Master's degree or other science- and communications-related degrees and advanced licensures/certifications will be considered

7 years of experience writing science and health content, preferably for a government agency such as NIH or HHS

Familiarity with diseases/conditions of the bones, joints, muscles, and skin

Proven ability to identify, review, and assess the quality of topic-specific research literature, and to synthesize research information independently, with minimal guidance from content experts

Experience facilitating stakeholder meetings and consensus-based content development meetings

Knowledge of and experience applying Federal plain language guidelines

Experience using NIH language and style guidelines; APA, Chicago, and GPO style manuals

Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word

Strong oral and written communications skills
