OUR MISSION

The mission of the Eastern Star Church ministry is evangelism and discipleship. We are committed to the great commission instituted by Jesus Christ that is to nurture and save souls (Matthew 28:18-20), and everything we do is for the purpose of being obedient to the commission of Christ.

YOUR ROLE IN OUR MISSION

The Communications Director is responsible for providing direction and strategy for all internal, external and online ministry/digital communications. This includes overseeing the video and production efforts for worship services and events as well as the marketing and public relations activities of Eastern Star Church. This person empowers and guides a team to develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to ensure the timely, creative, efficient and effective communication of Eastern Star Church’s mission, values, ministries and programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Communications

Oversee communications to and with staff, leadership, the congregation (including all Eastern Star Church locations) and all communities where Eastern Star Church is striving to connect.

Develop strategic communications strategies and a communications plan focused on tiered communication strategies, priority messaging and storytelling.

Meet regularly with Eastern Star Church’s leadership team and other church/ministry leaders to ensure strategic communications planning.

Oversee the church’s production team to ensure alignment with overall communications and marketing efforts.

Relationships and Management

Advocate for clear and strategically aligned communication in leadership settings.

Implement processes and project management tools for effective communication flow.

Educate staff and ministry leaders about effective communication procedures.

Connect with all staff and ministry teams to understand their goals and needs.

Provide leadership to build, manage, coach, train, and empower a communications ministry team.

Nurture staff and volunteers toward Christlikeness and the fulfillment of the church’s mission.

Determine communications project agendas, priorities and timelines.

Communications Planning and Tactics

Writing/editing/proofing

Strong writer and editor for various communications tools (print, presentations, reports, web and social media).

Design/creativity

Working knowledge of basic design principles.

Collaborate with graphic artists to create various tools.

Web/Social Media/App

Develop an overall vision and strategy for the church’s online efforts.

Manage a team to maintain the church’s web, eNews, App and social media presence.

Stay current with trends and technologies for digital communications and marketing.

Print

Oversee development of church print materials, including collateral, brochures, and guest materials.

Evaluate publications and initiate content reorganization as needed.

Verbal/Multimedia in Worship Services

Collaborate with pastors and leaders regarding worship service communication.

Oversee weekly announcements and related promotions.

Physical space

Oversee lobby/common areas and communication pieces for all Eastern Star Church locations.

Oversee signage and displays at all locations.

External/Other

Oversee all external communications, including marketing and outreach efforts.

Identify opportunities for external communication through news media.

Serve as a public/media relations contact as designated by church leaders.

Develop and update a crisis communications plan.

Develop and manage departmental budgets.

Prepare and present reports as required.

Other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or marketing.

Work Experience

Five years of experience in the related field.

Experience working with senior leaders.
