Mission or Goal of Unit: Our mission is to provide superb clinical care to our patients, educate the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and expand the orthopaedic knowledge base through basic, clinical and translational research. The department offers excellent,evidence-based, efficient patient care, thorough and responsive consultation inorthopaedic trauma services, effective supervision, teaching and mentoring oforthopaedic housestaff and students and streamlined throughput process foradmitted orthopaedic patients across the health system.Chief Purpose of this position: Weare seeking candidates to directly care for patients on the orthopaedic trauma service line;improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCU Health System;provide prompt high-quality orthopaedic trauma care; develop orthopaedicfaculty with interest in new technologies, clinical research and teaching;mentor residents and fellows; work within the hospital system and with otherdepartments to provide multidisciplinary care for general orthopaedic patients.Position Responsibilities:TeachingStaff inpatient housestaff teaching servicewith learners including medical students, interns and residents; usecontemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice;demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher forlearners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timelymanner.ResearchParticipate in clinical and administrative research, accordingto skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performanceimprovement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations;participation may be as principle investigator or co-investigator; maintain alevel of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.ServiceWork with institutional staff andadministration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, includingpatient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance andenhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.ClinicalAdmit and manage patients whopresent through the orthopaedic trauma service, co-management of patients onother services, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the EmergencyDepartment and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues inassuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely mannerwith all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing,documentation, billing; work effectively with other members of the extendedinter-professional team.OtherEnsure compliancewith all regulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirement.Required Qualifications: M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in Orthopaedic SurgeryRecord of scholarly publication in peer review journalsDirect experience managing complex orthopaedic trauma cases, competence in standard inpatient proceduresA solid understanding of the orthopaedic trauma role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic settingDemonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and writtenDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth UniversityPreferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and writtenInterest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of the groupPosition Type: MCVPFull time equivalent: 100Tenure: IneligibleRank: OpenMonths: 12Department:Orthopaedic SurgerySalary: CommensurateORP Eligible: NoContact Information:Contact Name: Mario LacicContact Email: mario.lacic@vcuhealth.org
