Temp - Histology - Histotechnologist (Days) Mattoon IL

Histology Technician is responsible for assisting the pathologist in completion of duties related to the department. Prepares microscopic slides from surgical specimens, non-gyn specimens, body fluids, autopsies, cell blocks and bone marrows.

Maintains contact with nursing department, physicians and other hospital areas for collaborative activities. May assist Histology Lead Tech with writing and editing department policies, procedures and protocols. Seeks opportunities to improve department performance and productivity.

Prepares incident reports and other reports of unusual occurrences, testing results or instrument malfunction. Logs patient data and accession numbers for pap smears, manually and in the computer system. Puts the tissue into the VIP after the pathologist is done with grossing.

Embeds, cuts, stains and cover slips the surgical, autopsy, bone marrow specimens and delivers slides to the pathologist.
