The Small Business Credit Team Lead will primarily manage the day-to-day operations of the Bank’s Small Business underwriting program, oversee the credit management of its existing portfolio of credits, and manage the Bank’s Small Business Credit Underwriter staff, which supports the Small Business efforts of all lines of business. The Incumbent will carry the approval authority to complete a certain volume of loans and annual review credit packages, while also working in conjunction with Small Business support staff and relationship managers to assess new opportunities and to ensure that existing loan customers are being monitored and maintained to minimize risk to the bank.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Small Business Credit and Operations Manager with staffing, training, and performance evaluation processes for Credit Underwriters.
  • Review and prepare approval memos to ensure proper structure, eligibility, and accuracy to be submitted for signature for appropriate approval level.
  • Prepare new money credit requests and review loans developed by loan officers for compliance and the Bank’s lending objectives, policies and procedures; assessing collateral, cash flow, capital and conditions of every credit request to make an informed and objective credit decision.
  • Manage loan relationships by underwriting review/renewal/modification transactions in accordance with the bank’s credit policies.
  • Resolve account or customer issues and providing administrative support as required.
  • Spread and analyze company and personal financial statements, calculate repayment ability, and prepare written reports to facilitate sound credit decisions, as well as analyze collateral adequacy with respect to credit structure and type of loan.
  • Responsible for completing real estate market analysis and/or industry market analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in commercial credit environment, including a strong background reviewing personal and business financial statements.
  • Must have a proven ability to render sound credit decision on their own authority.
  • Must have a strong knowledge in business credit underwriting and analysis, including the review and interpretation of client financial statements and tax returns, review and understanding of data in both personal and business bureaus and a familiarization with Dun & Bradstreet.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills to interact with both internal and external customers.
  • Must have strong PC spreadsheet skills and excellent analytical skills.
  • This position requires independent thinking in collaboration with other professionals to address financial issues.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of credit and regulatory policy.
