Job Details

The Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) will lead the Product Development, Engineering, and Marketing teams, playing a key role in shaping the company's merchandising strategies. This position ensures that all team initiatives align with the company’s goals, driving innovation, engineering excellence, and marketing effectiveness to strengthen market presence and accelerate growth.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies that align with the company's objectives.
  • Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitors to identify opportunities and challenges.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and engineering to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Create innovative strategies based on competitive analysis to maintain market leadership.
  • Work closely with engineering and other departments to integrate feedback and meet product standards.

Product Development:

  • Lead the development of new products, including pricing, design, and features informed by sales trends and market insights.
  • Oversee product catalogs, ensuring they meet pricing and depth requirements for multiple lines.
  • Manage product assortment to maintain a diverse and profitable range.
  • Recommend and guide the development of new product categories and extensions.
  • Collaborate with designers and trend experts to ensure product relevance in response to market trends.

Marketing Integration:

  • Drive marketing campaigns that align with business objectives, effectively communicating brand and product messages.
  • Ensure marketing strategies are integrated with sales and product development efforts.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all marketing and communication channels.
  • Lead customer communications that drive sales throughout the customer journey.

Engineering Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with the engineering team during product development to integrate technical requirements and feedback.
  • Ensure products meet company standards and specifications.
  • Address engineering issues or defects by working with teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Align engineering practices with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering to streamline manufacturing processes, improving product efficiency and reducing return rates.

Sourcing and Supplier Relationships:

  • Oversee the entire sourcing process, from identifying suppliers to managing relationships.
  • Direct global sourcing efforts to maintain competitive pricing and product styles.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships for timely and cost-effective product sourcing.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Build and lead high-performing teams across product development, marketing, engineering, and sourcing.
  • Provide clear direction, set priorities, and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Develop and execute annual plans for product development and marketing teams.

Financial Oversight:

  • Analyze the financial performance of product lines to optimize margins and profitability.
  • Negotiate favorable supplier terms to improve financial outcomes and reduce costs.

Market & Sales Analysis:

  • Gather and analyze market intelligence to support product recommendations and strategic decisions.
  • Integrate sales team feedback into product planning and strategy.

Travel Requirements:

  • Approximately 30% travel, including international, to oversee operations and manage relationships.
