Title: FMF Tool & Die Design Engineer
Reports to:
Engineering Manager – Hill Engineering, Carol Stream, IL
Purpose:
Tool and die design to fulfill customer order requirements or new product research and development. Designs complex dies, tools and punching systems for manufacturing parts and products, while meeting quality objectives through the use of effective production techniques and quality materials. Examines cost estimates or proposals before proceeding.

Responsibilities:
Concept and Design
Generates concept drawings and layouts, while working with sales and the customer.Working from concept drawings and layouts, create finished assembly and detail drawings and bills of materials/parts lists.Refine the concept drawings into working drawings by doing light-line layouts and review constraints.Identify proper fits and tolerances on drawings by utilizing thorough knowledge of engineering and standard tool and die manufacturing principles.Apply the practical applications of engineering knowledge to the machine practices during design conceptualization.Apply thorough knowledge of detailing of parts in the concept.Write detailed specifications for materials and confirm that the part strength meets the requirements based on calculation.Confer with other engineers and drafters to interpret design concepts, determine nature and type of required detailed working drawings, and coordinate work with others.Drafts detail and assembly drawings.Compiles data, computes quantities, determines materials needed and prepares cost estimates.Revise drawings for the spare parts department.Maintain thorough and meticulous documentation on all engineering drawings and specifications.Establish and maintain a clean, safe and healthy work environment.Keep management apprised of current situations, problems or potential issues and future market and product ideas to aid in company growth.
Job Support
Collaborates with Sales, Engineering and Production departments to answer questions, coordinate projects and troubleshoot problems that arise.Assists factory employees and supervisors with line and tool testing.Interacts with vendors to answer questions and coordinate deliveries.Supports Spare Parts department regarding questions and customer inquiries.Assists Sales department with new quotation information and customer inquiries.Occasional travel to customer facilities to review concept or light-line drawings, or for start-up or trouble-shooting.Specific behaviors:
Instill a high sense of urgency into all actions of the engineering department to ensure all activities are carried out to achieve set goals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will have no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
The minimum education required is a high school diploma plus college level tool and die design classes and drafting mathematics.
KNOWLEDGE:Certain additional knowledge and/or skills are required for satisfactory performance in this position may have been gained through a combination of academic study, specialized training, and job experience. Other requires knowledge/skills:
