Position Summary

This position will report to the Sr. Director of Operations and work closely with Plant Managers at

Deming, NM and Las Cruces, NM .

The controls and automation manager will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems and control processes across our Southwest operations at two facilities. This is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of industrial automation, control systems, and the ability to lead a team of skilled technicians and engineers.

The controls and automation Manager will be responsible for Line Performance, Process stabilization, Operational Improvements, support for Maintenance function and Projects. This position will lead and develop detailed execution plan and controlling project elements to ensure achieving line capacities, food safety and Right First Time (RFT).

The ideal candidate will have experience working with cross functional manufacturing and related teams to develop and implement controls and automation improvements. A solid understanding of engineering documentation such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures. Experience with field instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems.

Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and thermal processes.

Position Responsibilities

Manage the development and implementation of automation and control strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality across our operations.Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PLC, SCADA, and other control systems.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.Develop and implement training programs to ensure the competency of the automation and controls team.Analyze system performance data and provide recommendations for optimization and enhancement.Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in automation and control.Study current machines, utility designs, and layout to find opportunities for process and engineering improvements, capacity utilization ensuring the quality of the products produced.Develop

objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and align with stakeholders.Determine

processing line specifications by studying product design, requirements, and performance standards. Review quotes from contractors and prepare cost estimates and capex proposals.Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and recommend actions.Control costs by monitoring expenditures and maintain project data base on computer/MS Project. Ensure all information and back up data is entered.Confirm project performance by conducting tests/trials of installed machinery and implement policies, procedures, and systems for Capex management as defined

in the scope.Establish and comply with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), benchmarking against best in class to validate performance and improvements in

Processing and operations.Coordinate for and/or develop and deliver training for critical systems, regulations and standards, and equipment operation and maintenance.Provide support and direction to plant operations and maintenance personnel who manage shop floor activities.Analyze and assess equipment requirements, and perform repairs as needed under different ergonomic (bending, climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, etc.) conditions.Abide by all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements based on the work being performed.Supervise and coordinate activities of electricians, process control operators engaged in running the lines, installing, maintaining, and repairing plant equipment and machinery.Provide ongoing support for Plant Operations, including advances in automation, servo control, robotics, and the application of sensor technology.Perform other duties as assigned.Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required. Candidate may substitute eight (8) years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.Eight (8) years of experience in food processing, agriculture, chemical or pharmaceutical is required. Candidates substituting years of experience in lieu of degree must have a total of twelve (12) years of relevant experience.Must be able to implement National Electric Control (NEC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code related and code change training for electrical staff.Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.Ability to build and nurture relationships with key influencers and organizations across the organization is requiredAbility to solve complex problems and present effective and efficient solutions in a clear and concise manner to management is required.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.

Able and willing to travel between the two southwest facilities on a regular basis to support business and maintenance functions.Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel is required.

AutoCAD and MS Project proficiency is required or must be developed.Must be able to read, write, and speak EnglishBilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.Must be detail orientated and organized.Working knowledge of manufacturing methods, process improvement, problem-solving techniques and procedures is required.Proven ability to facilitate within a team, with the ability to influence and manage internal customers and external suppliers/contractors to ensure the timely success of the project is required.Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
