The Medical Director reports to the Chief Medical Officer and oversees the medical program at the county, ensuring quality healthcare services are provided to detainees. They are responsible for the supervision and monitoring of non-physician providers in detention facilities, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and maintaining accreditation standards. Additionally, they work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, administration, and correctional staff to develop and implement healthcare policies and programs that meet the needs of detainees.Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and ensure the success of the health care program, including the performance of clinical staff, at assigned facilities.• Maintain quality standards for medical records, pharmaceutical practices, and adherence to policies and procedures and standardized procedures.• Consult with PAs/FNPs and RNs on conditions outside standardized procedure parameters, perform examinations, and countersign records and orders.• Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review meetings, attend administrative meetings, and perform on-call activities as needed.• Supervise and train direct reports, including conducting performance evaluations and assisting with job shadowing, orientation, and training of new staff.Qualifications & Requirements
EducationGraduate of accredited medical schoolExperiencePrevious correctional/detention facility experienceAt least five years’ experience as a Medical DirectorLicenses/CertificationsCurrent (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and ACLS certification through AHAUnrestricted current medical license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.Board Certified/eligible in the field of internal medicine, family practice, or emergency medicineCurrent Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registrationAdditional Details
