MThe Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University is dedicated to excellence in clinical care, education, research, and administration. With more than 475 paid pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists across the Bay Area and more than 500 operational, program specialist, and research staff, our department is one of the largest at the School of Medicine.The Director for Academic Affairs & HR Strategies will provide strategic direction and oversight for Academic Affairs and Human Resources. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing viable administrative structures for the Department; leading, managing, and supporting managers/staff in Academic Affairs and Human Resources to achieve the education, research, and patient care goals of the Department, and ensuring that services are synchronous with and further the Department’s overarching goals, strategies, and initiatives. The position will serve as part of a 3-person cross-functional executive team, providing strategic counsel and direction to the Director of Finance and Administration, Chair, and Associate Chairs regarding the value and impact to the Department of strategies affecting faculty, staff, and trainees.The ideal candidate will have experience directing cross-functional areas in a large academic Department and experience leading a team of 18 administrative and professional staff. Candidates must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Advanced degree in business, human resources, or healthcare administration preferred.Experience working in academic medicine desired.Experience as an advisor to senior management in all human resources areas, including employee relations, employment and labor law, compensation, staffing and employment, training and development, performance coaching and management, and organizational development.Ability to implement organizational change and provide guidance in the development and execution of organization-wide initiatives.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):Demonstrated leadership and supervisory, planning, and change management skills.Excellent planning and organizational skills.Excellent communication skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, troubleshoot, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.Advanced financial expertise in accounting budget planning and financial forecasting.Advanced expertise in grants and contract administration.Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
