Base Rate:

$19.64 Driving Wage; Paid Training at $17.08/hr

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a five-year maximum

New hire education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

B21, 9.25 months

Part time: 20-29 hours per week

OVERVIEW

To safely drive a school bus and/or school van to transport students over scheduled routes and/or special excursions.

QUALIFICATIONSHigh School education or equivalent preferredMust possess a valid Arizona Driver's License with a clean driving recordMust meet requirements for School Bus Driver Certification (i.e. attend State Bus Driver clinic and pass fingerprint check)Knowledge of Arizona traffic lawsProficient demonstration of driving skills; ability to drive under pressureAbility to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with students, parents, coworkers and district personnel at all levelsAbility to read and understand routes, maps and schedules; knowledge of street and school locations within the district helpfulAbility to meet time schedules, punctuality and reliability a mustAbility to work varying driving assignmentsPhysical ability to pull, reach, push, bend and walkSuccessfully pass bus driver agility testAbility to work both AM & PM bus routes every weekday. This is a split-shift positionDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive school bus and/or school van safely to transport students over scheduled routes and/or special excursions (field trips, athletic events)Assist students and other passengers to provide for safe loading and unloading from buses during normal and emergency transportAdminister first aid and medical assistance to provide appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured studentsAssess potential emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect the safety and well-being of passengersInstruct students in the rules and regulations of safe bus riding and evacuation proceduresManage and handle conduct of students and passengers while they are on the busInform school and/or district personnel of practices and incidents, providing information for proper proceduresPrepare documentation to provide appropriate personnel with written support and/or to convey informationConduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of each bus you drive each dayReport any discrepancies to vehicle maintenance following proper proceduresDo not drive an unsafe bus; maintain cleanliness and sanitation of busComplete required paperwork and keep route sheet currentAttend training programs to maintain skills and meet requirements of school bus certificatePerform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitRegular and on-time attendance required

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Transportation. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
