General Summary:The Senior Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for initiating, directing, and supervising all aspects of clinical risk management services and has oversight responsibility of the strategic direction, development, optimization, implementation, and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management Program. The Senior Director has oversight of all aspects of the enterprise liability insurance programs and the Enterprise Recall Program. Acts as the liaison to liability insurance companies, Third Party Administrators and brokers.

Responsibilities:

Designs and maintains a robust Enterprise Risk Management framework that integrates risk management into all aspects of the organization’s activities and decision-making processes in alignment with Bayhealth's strategic vision, goals, and objectives.

Oversight and leadership of the enterprise liability insurance programs for Professional & General Liability, D&O, Fiduciary, Malpractice, Crime, Property, Cyber, and Auto insurance programs.

Oversight and matrix leadership of the Enterprise Recall Program working closely with Supply Chain, Pharmacy, Nutrition, Blood Bank, Nursing Operations including the OR and applicable area.

Oversight and leadership of the Clinical Risk Management Program including continuous optimization of the Safety Variance Reporting system.

Collaborates with various departments to ensure a full approach to risk management that supports Bayhealth's mission, values, and broad management goals.

Promotes a risk-aware culture across the enterprise, fostering an environment where risk identification and reporting are encouraged and valued by all team members of Bayhealth.

Leads the annual enterprise-wide risk assessment by identifying and assessing risks across the organization, considering a wide range of areas including business and clinical operations, finance, technology, reputation, safety variance trends and more.

Develops and implements strategies to mitigate identified risks, working closely with relevant stakeholders to establish effective controls and action plans.

Collaborates with divisional/departmental operational leaders to identify and address specific risks within their respective areas.

Provides guidance and support in developing risk mitigation plans.

Gathers and monitors risk-related data from internal stakeholders, and conducts analyses to identify, validate, and report emerging risks for consideration to senior management, the ERM Committee, and the Enterprise Risk Management Office.

Leads the enterprise-wide risk management program to reduce areas of high risk. Implements loss prevention activities.

Creates and modifies policies to comply with safety legislation, TJC, and industry practices.

Administers educational programs to foster compliance with risk management standards set by the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.

Leads claims administration, including prompt identification, reporting, evaluation, and resolution of claims.

Coordinates with Performance Improvement and develops hospital-wide programs for quality patient care using Bayhealth’s high-reliability approach to safety.

Works collaboratively with Chief Medical Officer, internal and external attorneys on high dollar, high-profile, high-risk cases to develop case management strategy and work toward resolution.

Coordinates the efforts of legal counsel, third party claims administrators, insurance companies, and the risk management program to represent Bayhealth and the physicians insured through the self-insured trust and/or excess coverage to resolve claims.

Coordinates the overall insurance selection and annual renewal program. Works independently and directly with brokers and insurance agents to negotiate and purchase insurance coverage to ensure adequate insurance coverage for the health system.

Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Leads cross-functional committees including the Enterprise Risk Management Program, Recall Team, and Liability Claims, and participates as a member of Corporate Compliance Committee, Ethics Committee as well as additional committee participation as relevant.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

Education: Master Degree in Health Care; Or Master's degree in Law, Finance, Business Admin, Nursing, or Education.

Credential(s): Registered Nurse; Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management within 1 year of hire.

Experience: Required: 5 years medical/legal experience; 7 years’ healthcare administrative/leadership experience.

Education: Juris Doctorate in Law.
