The primary role of the Transportation Business Group (TBG) Technology Director, working internally as part of our Professional Services program, is to drive the strategic vision and tactical implementation of technology solutions within our TBG. As the Technology Director, you will be responsible for interfacing and collaborating with TBG leadership teams to identify the use and need for technology solutions within the TBG and establish a framework of collaboration with other business group leadership teams, staff from the applied technology office and IT Groups, and other stakeholders to enhance decision-making, streamline processes, and foster a united vision for enabling today’s and tomorrow’s project delivery technology needs. The primary focus will be on the following:

Development and implementation of the TBG technology vision, roadmap and strategies

Internal coordination with IT group and applied technology teams and externally with vendors to align with TBG needs

Identification of programmatic hardware and software needs including high-performance computing, access to cloud-based services, software licensing, etc.

Identification of strategies that leverage technologies to optimize project delivery efficiency

Development of technology guidelines, policies and TBG software validation and maintenance

Technology training and talent development

Supporting TBG’s existing technology initiatives and assisting with the identification of new technology initiatives

Advancement and implementation of technology related to digital delivery, data management, optimization, automation, and visualization.

Success in this role will include developing consistent delivery approaches, connecting people with technology related talent, shaping our strategic plan for the next five to ten years, and positioning HDR as a differentiator in the marketplace. The ability to communicate complex technological solutions clearly and in a fashion so that non-technology leadership can be informed is a must. The ability to be able to work across a spectrum of potentially competing issues/interests to prioritize and implement a strategy is also key. This position will report to the Professional Services Director and will collaborate with the transportation related market sectors and business classes for overall resource allocation, key hires, quality control, and technical excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

In this role, we’ll count on you to:

Facilitate and lead the development of a TBG technology vision and roadmap that identifies, develops, and monitors strategies for technology investments within the business group.

Collaborate and coordinate with external technology vendors as well as internal business class and corporate technology programs to align and advance transportation initiatives for computer-related technology such as digital delivery and data analytics.

Develop and implement standardized approaches and best practices for increased efficiency of technology related work and quality of delivery

Work to identify programmatic hardware and software needs, such as high-powered computing, and work with corporate information technology to facilitate and implement solutions.

Participate in technology development policies, oversee software maintenance for the HDR transportation program

Develop strategies and support practice and professional discipline groups to foster technology talent collaboration and skills development.

Additional Responsibilities

This position also has a utilization goal of 50%. The successful candidate will also need to have demonstrated skills that can be utilized on projects to maintain this level of utilization. Demonstrated experience with:

Participation on project teams for larger programs and pursuits involving technology solutions

Leading the implementation of technology solutions for projects

A successful history of at least 50% project workload.

Qualifications

This position requires the following skills, attributes and experience:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, information science, systems administration, or similar related field.

10 years of demonstrated experience executing transportation projects involving technological solutions within the Transportation Engineering industry

Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute applied technology strategies, implementation plans, and foster lasting change within an organization. Experience in digital delivery, modeling, data architecture, data management, use of AI/ML, BIM, cloud computing, automation and integration with Microstation/Autodesk.

Well-versed in industry standards used within the Transportation Industry

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams to find solutions that advance projects and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience evaluating technology, and software development and deployment

Demonstrated understanding of a broad range of technologies and their applied delivery within the transportation industry.

Experience in highway and/or bridge modeling, digital production, and data sciences

Minimum of 8 years of experience with at least 5 in the consulting Architecture & Engineering industry

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field

A minimum of 10 years of experience in related field

Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience

Experienced in development and management of diverse teams

Works cooperatively with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
