WSP is currently initiating a search for an

Assistant Vice President, Bridge Engineer

for our

Salt Lake City, Utah

office. Be involved in projects with our

Transportation Team

Provides subject matter technical support and leadership for asset management, program management, rehabilitation, and new design projects for the public sector. Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction-support of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as bridges and other transportation structural elements. Provides situational guidance to PMs and managers that address current and future challenges, and that documentation and recommendations accurately account for and address risk, innovation, and future-ready opportunities. Provides leadership by ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

Coordinate with the district structures management team.

Assist in managing, growing, and developing the structures team in Utah.

Plan, organize and supervise engineering activities on bridge projects.

Function as a project manager and support others in managing projects that have major structures.

Represent projects and the firm at meetings and conferences.

Make recommendations on project staffing.

Assist with technical concepts in proposal development, preliminary design phases, and presentations to clients.

Assure that engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, budget control scheduling, cost engineering/control, quality control, and project objectives.

Provide innovative solutions related to the design of bridges, transit structures, and other significant structures required for state highways, county roads, and city streets.

Solve project problems in a team environment, particularly where project issues and challenges are significantly affected by the proposed structural solutions.

Develop and maintain relationships with owners, contractors, and sub-consultants.

Assist in the management of transportation projects.

Maintain and continue to develop the firm's reputation for technical excellence in bridge engineering.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

Minimum 10 years of relevant structural design experience with an emphasis on bridges.

Prefer MS in Civil engineering with bridge-focused background.

Current PE registration.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Involvement in industry and/or professional organizations related to structural engineering.

Energetic team attitude and ability to lead and mentor staff.

Working knowledge of other technical disciplines, such as track, highway, drainage, geotechnical, and hydraulics, associated with the design and construction of public infrastructure.

Working knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements.

Experience with construction, particularly in environmentally sensitive and constrained areas.

Experience managing engineering activities on structure-centered transportation projects.

Business development knowledge on structure-centered transportation projects.

Extensive knowledge of seismic modeling, assessment, and design of bridge structures.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Engineering.

SE Registration.

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) experience.
