The Foundation operates from its twenty-two-acre campus in Sun Valley, Los Angeles. The organization has transitioned from an all-volunteer board to a staff-led operation, with revenues growing significantly in recent years.THE OPPORTUNITYThe challenge for the new Executive Director will be to maintain core operations while building capacity to engage with decision-makers and donors. This role requires visionary leadership and the ability to inspire and expand the community TPF serves. One of the first major responsibilities will be to lead a new strategic planning process.Job Duties And RequirementsThe Executive Director, reporting to the board of directors, is responsible for accomplishing the strategic goals of the Theodore Payne Foundation and fulfilling its mission.Primary DutiesIn collaboration with the board of directors, staff team, and external partners, create and execute a strategic plan that guides future growth and investment.Establish and execute the annual budget, and effectively manage financial resources.Serve as the organization’s leading spokesperson and ambassador.Build relationships with elected officials, public agency heads, and landscape industry leaders.Ensure the continued growth of plant production and distribution programs.Work with management to ensure strong productivity and morale, and compliance with requirements.Create a strong development program that includes major gifts, membership, and grants.Ensure education programs prioritize the utilization and appreciation of native plants.Expand the organization’s reach to serve new communities.Provide stewardship and care for the TPF campus.Develop a strong working partnership with the TPF Board of Directors.Position RequirementsFive years or more experience in successfully leading an organization or large team, preferably in a non-profit setting.A college degree in a relevant field; a graduate degree is preferred.A strong knowledge of environmental and conservation issues.Knowledge of California native plants is preferred.Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.Fundraising experience.Experience in financial management in a non-profit setting.Commitment to serving diverse communities.Good organizational skills.Experience in management of earned income programs.CompensationThe salary range for the position is $125,000 - $165,000, annually. Benefits include health and dental insurance, a 401k plan with employer match, and paid time off.
