Summary:

This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs and assists with individual activities of daily living as well as certain treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. The Patient Care Technician will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act. Specifically, the Patient Care Technician will not administer medications, take physicians orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a licensed nurse (specifically sterile techniques).Responsibilities:(20%)*

Assesses care necessary for patient health needs and safety as directed by the RN and recognizes the specific individual needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric population.(20%)*

Plans and prioritizes to effectively achieve completion of expected job tasks; plans and prioritizes patient health care needs as directed by the RN.(20%)*

Implements actions that compliment and support nursing care.(20%)*

Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided to ensure quality care and timely completion of patient-related activities.(20%)*

Self-Management: Holds self accountable for responsibilities associated with the position, demonstrates effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships. - 1) New hires on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to have a current CNA certification and keep it active must hold an internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program or Medical Assistant with the following: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc. 2) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do not have a current CNA will be grandfathered in and not required to obtain the certification as long as they stay in their current classification. 3) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do have a current and active CNA will be required to maintain and keep active their certification as long as they are in their current classification. 4) Internal transfers after on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to obtain the CAN certification or complete the internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification within six (6) months of their transfer date. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAOther Information:EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:Successful completion of the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) class recommended.Has the ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.Physical Demand Level:
