The Johns Hopkins University is seeking to hire a
Senior Research Specialist II
who will work under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, to carry out generation, characterization, and maintenance of mouse strains modeling various aspects of Wilson disease.
The Sr. Research Specialist II will be responsible for maintenance of the current mouse strains and generation of new strains to study metabolic signaling in response to changes in cellular copper homeostasis. This includes breeding, genotyping, injection and analysis of metabolic sensors, tissue collection, and preparing samples for tissue imaging and mass-spectrometry analysis using protocols available in the laboratory. Sr. Research Specialist II will also be required to occasionally work with the available cell culture to produce monoclonal antibodies. He/she will be responsible for monitoring inventory levels, ordering materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Work requires basic use of advanced scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience.
Have an understanding of theory behind the experiments.
Possess analytical skills to carry out assigned projects.
Takes initiative and works collaboratively with other members of the group.
Will analyze the data and prepare manuscripts drafts, under supervision of Principal Investigators.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Six years' experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree or PhD.
Experience working with experimental animals (mice or rats).
Individuals with additional experience using confocal microscopy and mass-spectrometry proteomics will be given preference.
