Position Summary InformationJob Description Summary

Reporting jointly to the AVP of Employee Relations Services and to the Equal Opportunity Director (EODO) in a matrix reporting model, the Sr. Employee Relations Specialist supports two business units: Employee Relations and Equal Opportunity, with primary focus being Employee Relations.The incumbent supports an array of functions including but not limited to, Employee Relations Conflict Resolutions and investigations, Performance Management, Equal Opportunity, Title VII/Title IX/Harassment and Discrimination Investigations.As an experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of employee relations, the Sr. Employee Relations Specialist resolves a variety of complex and sensitive employee relations issues, advising and counseling client groups to resolve questions, concerns, and complaints.The Sr. Employee Relations Specialist will be collaborative and approachable and embrace Chapman's mission and culture. Employee Relations and Equal OpportunityProvides intake services for the Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations units by serving as the first point of contact for employees with questions; provides general information related to disciplinary processes.Participates in conduct-conflict management for managers, supervisors, and employees.Provides support to both the Employee Relations and the Equal Opportunity Departments on complaints, investigations, and intakes and report writing, provides support in preparing documents, letters, and other communication materials related to the performance management, investigations, etc.Supports the disciplinary and separation processes and conducts exit interviews to ensure proper information is captured, recorded, and available for analyses.Maintains documentation and files for investigations, incidents, and programs as needed.Reporting Analytics & Data MaintenanceMaintains all recordkeeping and reporting on investigations, incidents, and programs within Human Resources.Collects and analyzes employee relations and EEO data and prepares standard and ad-hoc reports utilizing data and data analytics, as required.Training and Performance ManagementAssists in the design and instruction of workshops and training on a variety of HR related issues/topics.Handles special projects and other HR related functions as necessary.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field, preferred.A minimum of four years' experience in progressively responsible positions, particularly in dealing with matters of sensitivity and confidentiality.Skilled in maintaining policy and procedural documentation.Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment in responding to employee relations related requests.Demonstrated ability to learn organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas.HR management experience in a large, complex organization with an emphasis in FMLA, EO/AA Workers Comp, Employee/Labor relations, compensation/classification, and employment/recruitment practices that include multiple sites and employment programs, preferably in a University setting.Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to identify problems and systematically gather relevant information, identify root causes, and effectively present data.Ability to provide support for investigations and fact-finding.Demonstrated skills to provide guidance to managers and employees on complex and significant employee relations issues.Demonstrated ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.Demonstrated interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with the public, faculty, students and staff in daily operations and via formal presentations.High level of sensitivity in dealing with diverse individual needs.Ability to organize work and prioritize tasks to meet established and variable deadlines, flexibility to respond in stressful situations and unexpected job demands with frequent interruptions and minimum supervision.Project support experience with a proven ability to collaborate and work as a team in successfully delivering projects on time and within approved budget.Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise discretion and judgment on matters of significance.Excellent writing skills to prepare clear, concise and well-written documents.Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality.Desired Qualifications
