POSITION SUMMARY :GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :Under general supervision of the Manager of Breast Imaging, the Radiology/Mammography Technologist provides X-ray and Mammographic technical skills to the Department mission. Duties are to work as a technologist and perform duties in other areas and/or modalities as necessary. The Radiology/Mammography Technologist performs X-ray and mammography exams for the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury to patients of all ages.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Manager of Breast ImagingSUPERVISION EXERCISED:NonePosition: Mammography TechnologistDepartment: Breast ImagingSchedule: Full TimeESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs X-ray and mammography technologist tasks as required, including operational procedures necessary for proper departmental workflow.Completes procedures in a timely fashion while providing quality radiographs for radiology/mammography and outside departments.Prepares patients for exams, ensuring comfort and modesty at all times.Follows established department policies and procedures, making adjustments as necessary.Sets up equipment and uses proper technique and exposure factors, adjusting as necessary.Performs duties in all areas of the department as determined by the Manager of Breast Imaging or the Radiology Director.Follows all radiation safety procedures to ensure patient safety.Performs appropriate studies according to established imaging standards protocol.Works with radiologist requirements to provide appropriate views and films.Provides service and care to patients of all ages.Performs patient registration and scheduling workflows as needed.CROSS TRAINING AND MODALITY COVERAGE:Performs cross-training in other departments as required for operational effectiveness.Cross-trains into other modalities as determined by the Manager and departmental needs.MANAGED CARE:Understands and adheres to managed care guidelines and procedures.CUSTOMER SERVICE:Performs patient-focused customer service, ensuring standards are met.Communicates patient complaints professionally.Treats patients and staff with dignity and respect.DOCUMENTATION AND RECORD KEEPING:Documents procedures in the Radiology Information System and enters demographics timely.STANDARD OF CONDUCT AND COMPETENCIES:Conforms to Faculty Practice Plan standards of conduct at all times.Maintains competencies in education, radiation safety, positioning, equipment, and record maintenance.EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:Helps maintain equipment to maximize uptime and minimize costs.OPERATIONAL AND TECHNICAL ISSUES:Performs procedures as required by patient volume and supervisor requests.Handles assignments given by the manager.PROFICIENCY CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS FOR CLINICAL PARAMETERS:Ensures all Radiology/Mammography exams are performed as required.Maintains safety for personnel and patients.COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT:Radiology/Mammography Technologist competency assessment includes communication, radiation safety, positioning, equipment handling, procedures, quality control, record maintenance, and infection control.QUALIFICATIONS AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:Requires knowledge of diagnostic radiology and mammography principles, operation and maintenance of Radiologic equipment, and completion of two years post-high school training in an approved school of Radiologic technology. Massachusetts Radiology license and ARRT (M) required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.Equal Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans
