The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. By using a blend of internal and external technologies and capabilities, we work to discover and deliver first-in-class as well as best-in-class molecules that warrant clinical evaluation for patient benefit.

The Molecular Interactions and Analytics Group is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Principal Scientist to support our biophysical characterization of drug candidates by providing quantitative data and deep biophysical understanding to drive decisions in a highly collaborative environment. The candidate will report to the team lead to help discover novel therapeutic antibodies. This high-level scientific position is laboratory focused. You will represent the Molecular Interactions function at discovery team meetings for multiple oncology projects, where you contribute with your biophysical expertise for selecting and optimizing therapeutic antibodies.

The primary responsibility of the role is to support our biophysical binding characterization of unpurified and purified antibody candidates. Responsibilities include:

Perform and analyze kinetic and thermodynamic studies of antigen-antibody interactions using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with sufficient rigor to both evaluate and characterize the antigen-antibody interactions under study.Perform epitope binning studies using SPR.Perform and analyze kinetic and thermodynamic studies of antigen-antibody interactions using solution-based methods such as Kinetic Exclusion Assay or non-traditional SPR experiments.Drive the development of novel biophysical assays.Contribute as an essential and reliable component to help drive projects to a successful conclusion with a high level of motivation.Interact productively with scientifically diverse research teams, including clear and concise presentation of data through oral presentations and written reports/communications.Use professional concepts to contribute to the development of the company's professional and scientific concepts and principles to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.

Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of academic/industry experienceor Master's Degree with 6+ years of academic/industry experienceor PhD with 4+ years of academic/industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:Position requires a background in Biophysics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field with a Ph.D. and 4+ more years of professional experience, or a master's degree with 6+ years or greater of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research environment.Knowledge of surface plasmon resonance and experience with the operation of diverse SPR instrumentation.Knowledge of KinExA experiments and experience with the operation of KinExA instrumentation a plus.Demonstrated ability to interpret biophysical binding data.Demonstrated ability to communicate and present biophysical binding data to scientifically diverse teams.Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems related to biophysical experimental design.Knowledge and understanding of the application of statistical principles and statistical software (e.g. GraphPad) required.Must be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented and well organized.Has the ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment.Experience and knowledge of flow cytometric antibody binding screens not required but a plus.Experience with Octet BLI instrumentation a plus.Experience with early stage antibody stability assays a plus.

Compensation:The starting compensation for this job is a range from $121,000 - $167,200 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
