The City of Carbondale, Illinois, a bustling and diverse community of 21,592 people in downstate Illinois, is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking City Manager with a proven track record of success in local government management. The City is home to Southern Illinois University and offers great cultural opportunities and abundant outdoor and recreation opportunities.

The City Manager is responsible for carrying out city policy and managing the day-to-day operations of the City. The City Manager will oversee an $82 million budget and a city that is in excellent financial shape and has won numerous budgeting and financial reporting awards. The City Manager will oversee several critical economic development and infrastructure initiatives. The City’s most recent manager was with the City for 8 years.

Minimum Requirements:A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public administration or a similar field is required. A Master’s Degree in Public Administration is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in executive level management in a local government of similar size and complexity is required.
