TRANSPORTATION ON-CALL ROUTE DRIVER TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

INTRODUCTION
The On-Call Route Van Driver provides transportation supports to individuals funded by DDA supported in a program based on one of Melwood campuses (DHR, Pinefield, and Recreation Center).
The On-Call Route Van Drivers provides curb to curb transportation to and from a person's home and a Melwood campus in a safe and timely manner.
The On-Call Route Van Driver must meet the qualifications of a direct support professional. The position works closely with and under the guidance of Transportation Coordinator- Driver Operations and Transportation Coordinator - Route Operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operates a passenger van safely and efficiently; follows specific regularly scheduled routes and responds to requests from dispatch or management for unscheduled pickups or drop offs.
2. Monitors traffic and weather conditions and notifies dispatch of potential problems.
3. Reports accidents or other safety situations to transportation administration.
4. Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior courtesy lamps, air conditioning or heating, warning lamps, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.
5. Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis and keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.
6. Monitors vehicle condition and records malfunctioning items or damage.
7. Accurately completes all transportation forms as required.
8. Informs transportation administrative staff and other interdisciplinary team members on passenger or transportation issues that occur.
9. Demonstrates positive behavioral management techniques and communicates with individuals in a person-centered, age-appropriate manner.
10. Knowledgeable of each individual's specific needs assigned to the route.
11. Facilitates individual's self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust.
12. Attend and actively participate in required training, team meetings and supervision meetings.
13. Other duties as assigned. *All functions are Essential.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED The incumbent is supervised by the Transportation Coordinator- Route Operations.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS Must be able to sit and or drive 90% of work time; stand/walk 10%. Must be able to lift or carry 60 pounds; must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach. Must possess good hearing and vision, as the incumbent in this position may be required to drive. Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff and passengers. All of these requirements are necessary in order to properly perform the duties of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma and three (3) years' experience in the transportation field required. Must possess a minimum of two years' experience driving a passenger vehicle. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to be a team player and responds to crisis in a calm and productive manner. Demonstrated ability in providing support in a respectful manner that meets the various needs of individuals served. Must be dependable and punctual. Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and be at least 21 years of age. Must complete certifications and trainings in the following areas: all DDA related training's, NAPPI and BPS (as needed). Must comply with Melwood transportation & driving policies. Must be able to pass and maintain DOT physical.
