Bus Driver TrainerREPORTS TO:

Coordinator of Transportation

JOB GOAL : To provide training that promotes and supports the safe and efficient transportation of students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GEDALSDE Driver Trainer CertificationPossess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver's license (ABL) and commercial driver's license (CDL) with P/S endorsementMaintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law or the Alabama State Department of EducationPossess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record including the ability to remain insurable under school system insurance requirementsFive (5) years' bus driving experience (prefer experience in both regular and special needs); Bus Driver Trainer experience preferredWorks effectively in a team environmentExcellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication skillsPrior experience operating a school bus over an assigned route according to a defined time schedule, which may require driving pre-daylight and dusk periodsStrength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of forcePhysical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform all duties and responsibilities as specified by state and federal regulationsPunctual and regular attendanceMeets suitability criteria (background check) under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities2. Trains, retrains, and evaluates all prospective and current drivers and aides as needed3. Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to supervisor4. Assists the Coordinator of Transportation with the district's bus driver/aide training program5. Conducts new employee, post-accident, and remedial driving performance evaluations on drivers/aides and maintains performance records6. Assists in maintaining the driver training manuals and other materials related to passenger transportation7. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility8. Networks with other instructor groups to exchange information related to passenger transportation and student safety9. Assists the Coordinator of Transportation in the design and implementation of safety meetings10. Drives routes and field trips as needed11. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
