Under general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, an Accounting Technician performs a variety of paraprofessional general accounting and clerical duties requiring knowledge of basic accounting, such as preparing monthly bank reconciliations, reconciling accounts payable and accounts receivable, recording revenues and bad debts, reconciling customer billing and prepaid capacity fee accounts, and preparing adjusting entries.The recruitment process will consist of an application screening, 1st round (structured) interview, and 2nd round (selection) interview. The tentative date ranges for the interviews are listed below:1st Round Interview Date Range: October 14 - 17, 20242nd Round Interview Date Range: October 21 - 24, 2024Candidates will be notified of their status in the recruitment process via e-mail.Coordinates with accounting staff to prepare month-end and year-end closing schedules; gathers relevant documentation; reconciles various accounts; prepares monthly recurring journal entries for a variety of accounts such as bad debt, and prepaid capacity fees.Prepares monthly bank reconciliations, including reconciling deposits and disbursements with bank statements and the general ledger, analyzing discrepancies, preparing outstanding checks list and adjusting entries.Reconciles billing transactions from the customer billing system to the general ledger accounts, including sales, accounts receivable and cash receipts; reconciles prepaid capacity fee sub-ledger with general ledger accounts; prepares year-end schedule and report on prepaid capacity fees.Prepares and records other deposits such as capacity fee and tax revenues; prepares inter-fund reimbursements and related journal entries; maintains miscellaneous accounts receivable accounts, including preparing invoices, following-up to ensure payment, and reconciling the balance to the general ledger.Performs other duties as assigned.DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE OF AND PERFORMANCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:General and governmental accounting principles, practices, methods, and techniques; multi-fund accounting; reconciliation of bank statements;Computers and software in the development of accounting records and financial reports.ABILITY TO:Understand and apply financial reporting and record keeping requirements to a variety of accounting tasks;Protect the confidentiality of financial information;Prepare, generate and maintain accurate records, reports, spreadsheets, and files related to area of assignment;Analyze inter-fund receivables and payables between multiple enterprises;Operate office equipment including calculators or ten-key adding machines and computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, email, database, and accounting software;Perform basic clerical, data entry, and accounting tasks accurately;Determine priorities; organize work to meet critical deadlines;Independently complete assigned tasks under minimal supervision;Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;Assist in training other accounting staff as required;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:Identify fine statistical reports and standard text and data on computer terminal screens.Communicate and convey at normal conversational levels in person, and over the telephone.Prepare materials legibly, use calculators, computer terminals, and other general office machines.Frequently move and position self to maintain reports, materials and objects weighing approximately ten pounds.EDUCATION:Associate degree in accounting or related field is required.EXPERIENCE:Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing general accounting duties including working with accounting software and spreadsheet programs.REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:A valid California class C driver's license must be maintained at all times.It is the policy of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to ensure equal employment opportunity to all persons regardless of their race, color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, mental or physical impairment, ancestry, medical condition, marital status, or age (except where a bona fide occupational qualification).
