Selective Insurance is seeking an experienced Trial/Sr. Trial Attorney to handle insurance defense cases for our Indianapolis, IN Staff Counsel office. Experience with EEOC/Professional Liability cases is highly desired.
Job Responsibilities
Prepares pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, reports, appeals, articles, etc. using our legal case management software.
Directs and undertakes discovery practice including depositions and all other pre-trial preparations.
Communicates with clients and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters.
Researches and briefs issues using Lexis and other data sources.
Develops litigation strategy for all assigned cases.
Provides analysis to claims in the form of legal opinions and recommendations.
Controls and directs clerical activity necessary to support function of position.
Reports to managing attorney concerning status of matters.
Tries cases to conclusion before judges and juries.
Travels to depositions, court appearances, and other events as necessary.
Engages in other activity as directed by the managing attorney.
Job Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school required.
Minimum 7+ years legal experience in the jurisdiction required.
Experience in EEOC/Professional Liability cases preferred.
Trial experience preferred.
Excellent customer service, writing, and oral communication skills required.
Strong legal research and writing skills required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Edge or Chrome required.
Legal case management software experience required.
Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing.
The expected starting salary range for this role is: Trial Attorney is $116,000 - $167,000; Sr. Trial Attorney is $131,000 - $188,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location.
