Responsibilities And Qualifications

As a Communications Specialist, you will bolster REI’s reputation and engage one of our most important audiences: our 14,000 store employees across the country. Your work helps drive our business, build trust and confidence in leaders and energizes our community. You’ll be a part of the Communications, Community & Inclusion team, whose job is to help REI, the nation’s largest consumer co-op, inform and engage its 20 million members and 16,000 employees.

You’ll contribute to REI’s success by supporting our store communications program, and creating and publishing compelling content across internal communication platforms. The goal? To support employee knowledge and engagement; build trust in leadership; and bolster REI’s brand, reputation and community leadership.

You’ll achieve this through creative content development and delivery and savvy project management—all while living up to REI’s values and mission. You will demonstrate an outstanding track record in the craft of written and multimedia communications. You will be a creative, self-starting team member with the ability to influence and lead peers in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and complex, cross-divisional projects.

Create and publish contentDevelop multi-media content for internal external channels. This includes interviewing subject-matter experts across the co-op at every level.Support development of content creation for gatherings such as leadership forums, all-store meetings, and others. This includes developing messaging framework and flow, managing communication and planning follow-up materials, as needed.Search out stories across the business.Develop communication plans for projects as directed.

Communication support and project managementWork with team to develop and maintain asset library of videos, photos and other multimedia content.Serve as expert in REI’s brand standards and support team in consistent execution.Serve as “super user” for content platforms.Serve as project manager for communication strategies, as directed, managing work plans and timelines end-to-end.Analyze and share regular metric reports to demonstrate effectiveness of communications strategy.

Required Skills And Expertise2 years of internal or external communication experience.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.Exceptional writing and editing skills in a variety of media.Proven project management skills, including development of project plans and timelines.Excellent instincts and good judgement.Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environment.A curious mindset.

Pay Range$63,300.00 - $101,500.00 per year
