About the role

The Head of Strategic IT Vendor Management is a results-focused individual responsible for developing and executing vendor management strategies to optimize IT vendor performance, drive enterprise cost-effectiveness, and maximize value from IT vendor relationships.

This individual is able to build trust, establish effective internal and external relationships and become a trusted advisor in business and IT initiatives. This role requires close collaboration with IT and procurement teams to align vendor management’s objectives with the company’s strategic priorities. A high sense of accountability is required to build and drive an effective governance approach for managed services and strategic vendor relationships.

Vendor Management Strategy:

Develop and implement a comprehensive IT vendor management strategy aligned with business objectives and IT goals.

Identify and prioritize strategic IT vendors based on business and technology needs.

Vendor Relationship Management:

Design and deploy a vendor management function for a holistic view of vendor relationships, improved risk posture, and process uniformity.

Implement structured relationship management to drive alignment, innovation, and collaboration with mission-critical vendors.

Establish and maintain strong, productive relationships with key IT vendors.

Collaboration with Sourcing and Procurement:

Work closely with the Sourcing and Procurement team to align vendor management activities with sourcing strategies and procurement policies.

Together with Procurement, serve as the primary point of contact for strategic IT vendors, facilitating communication and collaboration.

Participate in vendor selection, negotiation, and contract management to ensure that, once the vendor is selected, contract terms are met during execution.

Optimize vendor-related costs through effective negotiation, cost analysis, and strategic sourcing initiatives.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements in vendor relationships.

Performance Monitoring and Improvement:

Develop and implement vendor performance metrics, KPIs, and scorecards.

Monitor vendor performance and take corrective actions as needed to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Cost Management:

Implement continuous spend management and optimization for value realization across the IT vendor ecosystem.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

Establish a small high-performing team with for-for-purpose tools to support the vendor management function.

Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in vendor management.

Promote innovation and continuous improvement in vendor management practices and processes.

Risk:

Support identification and mitigation of risks associated with IT vendors, including compliance, security, resiliency, and operational risks.

Support development of contingency plans to address potential vendor-related disruptions.

The job can only be performed in the State locations listed: Houston, TX and Remote – NC.

What we are looking for:

Strong communication and stakeholder-influencing skills. Experience collaborating with senior executives (e.g., CIO, CFO, CISO, business unit heads, and strategy teams) and driving change across teams. Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues effectively required.

Strong negotiation skills and experience driving outcomes from vendor relationships required.

Experience writing technology vendor contract terms and dealing with legal actions when contract terms are not met required.

Experience in IT business-case development and application of analytical skills to project financial and management required.

Demonstrated problem-solving skills in complex vendor and internal customer environments required.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

15+ years of experience in IT vendor management, strategic sourcing, procurement, or a related field.

Proven track record of developing and implementing effective vendor management strategies with measurable results.

Strong understanding of IT products, services, and market dynamics.

Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing complex vendor relationships.
