GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:We have an opportunity to join our team as a Finance Analyst.In this role, the successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for clinical trial budgeting and financial management of multicenter clinical trials serves as a Clinical Coordinating Center and site.Under the guidance of the Sr. Administrative Manager- Research for the Department of Neurology, and with direction from the principal investigator (PI) of clinical trials, the financial analyst will develop clinical trial budgets, negotiate budget and payment terms with sponsors and sites, collaborate with legal teams to prepare sub-agreements. The finance analyst will serve as the primary point of contact for all accounts receivable/payable functions for site and vendor payments, perform financial forecasting, and report on funds status. This position will also manage billing and expenses for clinical trials where MGH/Clinical trials is the site.This role requires a high level of interaction between clinical trials study teams, grant administrators, MGH administrative and clinical trials offices, and academic, foundation, and industry partners.The finance analyst will serve as a central resource on the financial aspects of multicenter clinical research projects at the clinical trials. This person will help develop and present analyses that provide insight into the clinical trial financial and administrative management infrastructure.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical Research Study BudgetsDraft and negotiate budgets, budget justifications and payment terms for clinical trials and clinical trial design agreements, based on scope of work, research protocols, and input from clinical trials directors.Ensure budgets and research billing terms are viable, financially feasible, and in compliance with MGB policies and procedures.Assemble input from clinical trials directors and assemble scope of work and budget justifications for new clinical trial design agreements.Develop and negotiate site budgets with sponsors and external sites; serve as the central point of contact for budget negotiations and payment terms with sites when appropriate.Actively and effectively communicate status of budget negotiation with key internal and external stakeholders, escalating any issues that could impact project timelines or other aspects for study start-up.Work with grants administration team and CTO office to prepare sub-agreements with sites.Develop site payment schedules and processes.Develop standard budgeting tools, templates, and prepare guidance on best practices for establishing multicenter clinical trials.Clinical Trial Financial ManagementPerform accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks for fund accounts (i.e. invoice sponsor for earned milestone and pass-through expense payments, monitor sponsor payments, review, approve and initiate payment for incoming research invoices.)Work with and assist Principal Investigators, administrators, and study teams with the allocation of personnel costs.Perform monthly reconciliations of study financial accounts.Prepare comprehensive quarterly clinical trial financial reports and present the report to the PIs.Maintain a database of existing clinical trials with payment schedules, dollars received, and dollars outstanding.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree required, with preference for concentration in Economics, Business, Accounting or Finance. 2-3 years of experience in Research Administration or a financial analysis/accounting function.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Advanced MS Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint skills. Experience with PeopleSoft, Insight, OnCore and additional application systems a plus.Familiarity with clinical trial operations, sponsored project policies, and management for industry-funded clinical trials.Strong customer focus in collaboration with sites, sponsors, and external stakeholders.Highly analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, improving, and streamlining complex work processes.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced constantly changing environment.Experience working within a medical organization and team environment is strongly desired.EEO Statement:Massachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
