What You’ll Do (Role Purpose)

As the Global Sustainability Risk and Compliance Leader, you will lead the strategy for our global Environmental and Sustainability risk and compliance requirements, including regulatory influencing strategy. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with sustainability legislation, understanding the impact our sustainability policies and practices has on the organization, anticipating future sustainability changes as well as identifying opportunities to improve sustainability practices. A critical function of this role is governance processes, specifically to escalate critical gaps and drive to resolution in a timely manner.

The Impact You Can Make

Proactively manages the dynamic sustainability risk and compliance landscape appropriate to the company’s brands, categories and operations.

Identifies, assesses, communicates and manages material sustainability and environmental risks (internal and external) to protect the environment and the company.

Develops and operationalizes risk management processes, aligned to the Enterprise Risk Management.

Leads development of relevant crisis management and business continuity plans, and supports as necessary when events occur.

Leads the Sustainability regulatory center of excellence, monitoring, influencing and communicating emerging regulations and building compliance systems and processes to ensure adherence.

Operates and deploys the following compliance/assurance programs and associated controls:

Environmental compliance in operations

Product sustainability-related regulations

Product sustainability claims

ESG reporting

Responsible sourcing and associated policy and regulatory compliance

Deploys and monitors preventive, detective and corrective environmental and sustainability controls across the organization to ensure effective functioning or require correction as needed to manage relevant risks to an acceptable level.

Partners with the Health & Safety organization to operate and continuously improve the EHS audit programs and establishes/operates controls validation processes where needed.

Business Acumen - Works cross-functionally, across a matrixed environment, using leadership, influence, and business acumen to evaluate risks and opportunities and propose appropriate courses of action, adhering to high ethical standards in the creation and execution of Sustainability strategies and capabilities.

About You:

Experiences We’re Looking For

A Bachelors degree (Preferred Master’s degree or above) in policy, risk management, science/ engineering or related fields specific to EHS, Sustainability or ESG.

At least 15 years of experience with environmental, sustainability, health and/or safety, ESG or compliance/ethics responsibilities for a global, multi-site organization.

Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of environmental, ESG and supply chain due diligence and responsible sourcing requirements.

Demonstrated capabilities in managing global EHS&S risks, compliance/conformance/controls programs and EHS event/crisis management.

Possess (or be capable of supervising staff with) a working knowledge and understanding of relevant: government policy developments and regulatory affairs; responsible sourcing (including human rights requirements and procurement sustainability especially related to fiber).

Experience leading teams with global accountabilities required to engage and align cross-functionally and a demonstrated track record of leadership, staff development and objective achievement.

Strong communication skills and ability to inform/inspire audiences across various levels/functions, influencing behaviors/outcomes without direct authority.

Strong business acumen, influence, strategic planning, program and change management expertise.

Occasional travel may be required to support the business (up to 25%).
