The Optical Packaging Engineer is to lead optical package development from ideation to prototype and production for high performance interconnect project. The job requires providing solutions that are highly creative, and directly contribute to product differentiation. The Optical Packaging Engineer will be responsible to establish package manufacturability and reliability, drive package qualification activities. The Optical Packaging Engineer needs to work closely with fab, assembly, substrate, connector partners, and collaborate with multi-functional teams within AMAT and define optical package requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesConceive and design novel concepts for low-loss and low-cost fiber packaging through optical/mechanical design and modeling of photonic chip coupling interfaces.Simulate the performance of optical assemblies, with a mind towards the interface between PICs and package, as well as manufacturing tolerances.Characterize and develop packaging solution, evaluate the optical/electrical/mechanical/thermal performance and reliability.Document and report to internal members and communicate with external vendors and partners.Functional Knowledge5+ years optical packaging experience.Knowledge in Flip Chip Packaging / multi chip module/ hybrid bonding / Optical Connector Assembly/ Optical Connector to chip attach.Basic photonic device knowledge on integrated photonics components and other modules in the system.Strong problem solving skills.Experience in using optical simulation software like Lumerical or Zemax.Industry experience creating detailed design documentation (specifications, design descriptions, verification).Business ExpertiseInterprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services.LeadershipMay lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.Problem SolvingLeads others to solve complex problems; uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions.ImpactImpacts the achievement of customer, operational, project or service objectives; work is guided by functional policies.Interpersonal SkillsCommunicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view.QualificationsEducation:
