Under the general direction of the Mass General Brigham Chief Pharmacy Officer, the Executive Director of Pharmacy supports the enterprise pharmacy mission, vision, and goals. This position provides strategic pharmacy leadership at Brigham and Women's Hospital, one of the pillar academic medical centers within the MGB system.

The Executive Director will provide fiscal and strategic leadership and management of the Pharmacy department at Brigham and Women's Hospital. This role provides critical organizational change leadership in the development and execution of modern pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients through highly reliable, safe, and efficient medication use systems, innovative direct patient care services, exceptional collaboration with other healthcare providers, and transformative education of health science school students and other trainees.

The Executive Director drives initiatives ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the enterprise, as well as achieving the goals and objectives of the organization. This role serves as entity representative for the Department of Pharmacy at the administrative level through participation in relevant internal and external administrative meetings, committees, and forums.

This executive role has 24x7 responsibility

Principle responsibilities include:

Key Organizational leadership:

Key Champion for the effective alignment of all pharmacy entities and services. Leads change management and implementation activities for new and ongoing system initiatives at the entity. Proactively identifies risk, anticipates local impact, recommends ways to mitigate issues, and reports back on progress and challenges.

Work directly with MGB Chief Pharmacy Officer to develop goals, objectives, and budgets that support the pharmacy services mission of the organization.

Collaborates with all MGB entities and leaders to create a system pharmacy approach.

Strategic Planning:

Responsible for the implementation of short- and long-term strategies for the department, ensuring alignment with system-wide pharmacy direction.

Human Resources:

Responsible for the recruitment, support, and development of management, clinical and technical staff, and trainees of all levels.

Regulatory, Quality and Safety:

Partner with the OCMO and MGB Chief Pharmacy Officer to initiate workplans and lead performance improvement initiatives at the entity to enhance quality, reduce cost, and improve the safety of pharmacy services.

Financial Management:

Manages the pharmacy’s financial performance, developing budgets aligned with system, organizational, and departmental objectives, and monitoring financial performance appropriately.

Operational Oversight:

Leads all aspects of entity-based pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, receiving, security, inventory control, and distribution policies, including reverse distribution and pharmaceutical waste disposal methods.

Collaborates with central 340B team to ensure entity compliance with all aspects of the 340B drug discount program.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy is required.

Completion of an ASHP-accredited Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency program or equivalent experience (5 years) in a related practice area is preferred.

Licensure: Valid pharmacy license to practice pharmacy in Massachusetts is required.

5 to 8 years of progressive hospital pharmacy leadership experience in a large academic medical center or health system. This should include management and supervision of pharmacy personnel with a focus on departmental financial performance, medication use systems, and clinical services. Broad experience across the continuum of care (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, regulatory) is desirable.
