National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in the full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.About the Position
As an Associate Engineer, you will be working in the US Offshore Development business unit supporting engineering of onshore and offshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems including for offshore wind projects. You will interface with equipment suppliers, engineering consultants, and permitting consultants to support work packages during project development, preliminary engineering, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.Support the broader Business Development team during project origination and developmentSupport project engineering and constructionSupport HVDC converter station engineeringSupport integration of HVDC systems with high voltage alternating current (HVAC) onshore and offshore gridsPerform electrical design and technical evaluations of offshore transmission projectsSupport project cost estimatingWork across all phases of projects, including feasibility assessments, proposal write-ups, cost and pricing development, stakeholder engagement, and project permittingThis is a hybrid role with 1 day a week in the office or local site.What You'll Do
You will be a part of an innovative, dynamic, and mission-driven team!You will:Support workstreams responsible for conceptual design through project delivery of HVDC systems to interconnect large offshore wind farmsPerform technical assessments of electric HVDC requirements, including siting and design for onshore converter stations and offshore converter platformsPerform cost estimation as needed to help pursue most economically advantageous optionsSupport technical reports, studies and drawings associated with HVDC systems including considerations for the electrical and civil design of HVDC converter stations and associated HVAC equipmentSupport technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnershipsDocument, report and present findings and justificationsPrepare executive summaries and investment committee papersSupport siting, permitting and licensing requirements and/or hearings, if requiredWork in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across NG functions in the US and UK and partner companies across the globeSupport technical work with external vendors, including support of tendering and execution of Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)What You'll Need
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institutionGraduated between May 2024 and June 2025Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policyApplicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United StatesMore Information
Salary RangeWaltham, Massachusetts $82,000 - $96,000 a yearBrooklyn, New York $87,000- $102,000Please note US Colleagues must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont.
