Nursing Services House Manager (Central Staffing Resources):Coordinate and supervise patient placement, bed management and float nursing resource allocation activities on a shift by shift basis in order to optimize staffing levels in all UMHS areas.Act as in-house UMHS Nursing Administrator on-call.Act as in-house UMHS Nursing Representative for patients and families.Manage all aspects of daily functioning in the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR).Manage all aspects of nursing service within a specific departmental cluster.Provide direct supervision to CSR nursing and ancillary staff members.The University of Michigan Health is a Magnet recognized hospital. Coordinate UMHS Nurse Staffing: Coordinate and supervise patient placement, bed management and float nursing resource allocation activities on a shift by shift basis in order to best meet patient care needs.Act as In-House Nursing Representative for Patients and Families: Respond promptly and in person to patient/family concerns; communicate patient/family concerns to staff members, nurse managers or departments as needed to initiate appropriate action; provide follow-up to ensure that patient/family concerns are appropriately addressed.Support, Assist and Advise Unit Nursing Staff: Assist unit nursing staff in problem-solving to provide optimal customer service; advise unit staff members in handling specific patient, family and/or staff problems.Supervise and Evaluate CSR Nursing and Ancillary Staff: Plan, assign and review the work of CSR nursing and support staff members to ensure that the values of patients and families first are translated into patient care practice.Resource Allocation: Monitor the status of census, acuity, and other extenuating circumstances that have a potential effect on staffing; engage in ongoing communication with directors, nurse managers and unit charge nurses.Coordinate Float Resources: Use established data-driven processes to allocate available CSR and unit float resources in a consistent, cost effective and equitable manner.Leadership: Provide administrative support, consultation, and leadership to UMHS nursing staff; serve as a resource regarding institutional and departmental policies and procedures.Personnel Management: Recruit, hire and orient staff; monitor orientation and evaluate progress.Schedule Staff: Use available trend and utilization data to schedule CSR staff in a manner that supports unit/clinic needs.Counsel and Evaluate Staff: Evaluate staff on a regular basis; identify performance issues and communicate them to staff members.Manage Cluster Expenditures: Plan, negotiate and monitor expenditures from unit payroll for a specific cluster.Expectations of the Position

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 7-day posting period.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing OR Associates degree or Diploma in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing.Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.Three (3) years nursing management or nursing supervisor/charge nurse experience within the last five (5) years.Leadership experience and the ability to perform as a role model to nursing staff.NOTE: In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.RESUME REQUIRED (for both internal & external applicants): You must attach a complete and accurate resume to be fully considered for this position.Desired Qualifications

Preferred candidate will have Critical Care RN experience.Experience with managing house-wide staffing on off-shifts and the other responsibilities of a House Manager/Supervisor/Director.Demonstrated knowledge of University and Hospital policies and procedures and internal contractual agreements.Experience floating to multiple units.Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 0.5 (20hrs/week)Shifts/Hours: Nights (8 & 12hr shifts)NOTE: This position includes weekends and holidaysLocation: Central Staffing Resource Department in the University Hospital.Modes of Work
