The

San Diego City Attorney's Office

protects the people of San Diego by serving as chief legal counsel to the City of San Diego’s elected officials and operational departments, prosecuting and defending civil cases involving the City, and as the City’s prosecutor on behalf of the People of the State of California, by holding accountable those who commit crimes against the public health and safety and violate other local and state laws. Our municipal law firm employs over 175 lawyers and approximately 220 support staff dedicated to providing legal services to the City of San Diego.

The

Civil Advisory Division

of the San Diego City Attorney’s Office is recruiting to fill a Deputy City Attorney position in the

Neighborhood Services Section . The deputy will report directly to this Section's Chief Deputy City Attorney.

The Neighborhood Services Section provides legal advice to the City Council, Mayor's Office, Parks & Recreation Department, Library Department, Special Events & Filming Department, Commission for Arts & Culture, Office of ADA Compliance and Accessibility, Office of Child and Youth Success, the Local Enforcement Agency, the Department of Race and Equity, and the Public Records Act Administration. One of the critical responsibilities of this Section is the coordination of and response to California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests. The Deputy City Attorney selected will monitor CPRA requests, compile and review potentially responsive records, respond to requests via the City’s online portal, conduct training for City departments, and advise City departments on CPRA issues. Additionally, the Deputy City Attorney may provide legal assistance to the departments and offices supported by the Section as needed.

The Deputy City Attorney meets with and advises client departments directly, carrying their own workload. The Deputy City Attorney is expected to be able to work independently but with regular contact on pending work with their assigned supervisor.

NOTES:The following wage increases are scheduled to effect for Deputy City Attorneys:A 5% general wage increase will be effective January 1, 2025.An additional 5% general wage increase will be effective July 1, 2025.
