Manager, EH&S and FacilitiesRoles & Responsibilities

Lead program development and initiatives to meet regulatory requirements (EPA, CAL/OSHA, IIPP, DTSC, CERS, DOT, BAAQMD, WASTEWATER DISCHARGE, SJ CODE OF ORDNANCE). Evaluates new and existing programs to assess suitability and make changes as required.

Oversees development of appropriate regulatory compliance submittals (OSHA ITA, HMBP, DTSC EVQ).

Monitors injury and illness to provide support and develop proper documentation for appropriate submittals to affected party members.

Engage in hazard assessment and develop corrective action plans to protect personnel against potential hazards in the workplace.

Engage in hazardous material & waste management programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Develop a sustainable safety culture and collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure safety programs are implemented at all levels of the organization.

Oversees multiple facilities related projects to enable engineering requirements to include but not limited to working knowledge of HVAC, process piping, and electrical requirements.

Manages multiple facilities equipment to ensure operational downtime due to equipment malfunction is minimized or eliminated.

Engages with cross-functional teams to develop & implement business strategies based on corporate objectives.

Establish relationships with vendors & contractors and perform periodic audits of invoices in collaboration with Finance.

Manage building permitting processes to comply with local municipal and state building codes with alignment toward corporate goals from design to construction.

Manage the Emergency Response Team and act as the Incident Commander during emergency events.

Train and manage certification of employees in all required safety compliance areas.

Other duties as they may be assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

Bachelors degree in Safety Engineering, Science, or Management, or 8+ years relative experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) field.

5+ years experience in Facilities Management field.

Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.

Knowledge of occupational safety regulations and policies.

Knowledge of industrial wastewater management and permit requirements.

Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems and an overall experience with structural and general facilities maintenance.

Experience in lab environments utilizing hazardous materials.

Knowledge of EHS software systems.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical requirements and data to others that do not have the same expertise or experience.

Excellent listening skills and ability to understand and interpret business needs to define communication requirements for a variety of audiences.

Strong initiative and self-starter; ability to prioritize and multiple tasks and deadlines.

Strong ability to partner and collaborate with other functional areas as well as achieve goals by influencing others and working with indirect reports.

Must have the ability to lead and manage project teams; set clear goals and objectives and drive performance results.

Capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform Safety Data Sheet (“SDS”) audits to include updating, filing, indexing, scanning onto SDS Software, and performing chemical inventory to ensure accountability of chemicals.

Ability to use power tools, warehouse equipment, and heavy equipment operations to support day-to-day functions. Occasional need to climb ladders.

Ability to perform periodic inspections and identify equipment needing preventive maintenance.

Collect satellite hazardous waste collection containers and stage for shipment in Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area.

Effective verbal and written communications skills with emphasis on professional emotional intelligence.

Responding to personnel requests to physically implement necessary requirements such as setting up lab functions and engineering process equipment.

Backup for Shipping/Receiving with packaging batteries of various sizes, and assist with overseeing warehouse operations.

LocationSakuú’s culture is best experienced in person, and selected candidates will be expected to work 100% onsite at our South San Jose location. Remote work schedules are not available.

The estimated compensation range for a new hire in this position is $105,000 to $130,000. Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a competitive base salary, discretionary target cash bonus, Sakuú offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
