Columbus is a national destination for living, breathing art.The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) was formed in 1969 to save the historic Ohio Theatre (Columbus) from the wrecking ball. After the theatre was saved, CAPA renovated the magnificent 1928 movie palace to its original glory. It was then that CAPA became the leaders in theatre rehabilitation and downtown redevelopment. Since then, CAPA has adopted Columbus’ Palace Theatre and Southern Theatre, and manages the Riffe Center Theatres, the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, CT, and the Lincoln Theatre.One unique aspect of CAPA is its shared service business model, offering personalized back-office services to local arts organizations. While each agreement is tailored to fit each organization’s needs, some of these services include marketing, ticketing, management, operations, finance, publicity, human resources, IT, and development.Primary FunctionThe Director of Human Resources leads and directs the human resources functions at CAPA and for the companies where CAPA provides this function as part of its shared services agreement. The Director of Human Resources reports directly to CAPA’s President and CEO and is a member of the executive leadership team. This position continuously works to align HR practices and policies with CAPA’s mission and strategic plan. Specific areas of responsibility include talent management, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, labor compliance, employee communication and engagement, policy oversight, and payroll administration.Direct Reports:

Human Resources Manager, Payroll and Benefits AccountantAdditional Information: This is a

full-time, exempt

position. The selected candidate will be eligible for CAPA benefits offered to full-time employees, including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, a $50,000 company-paid life insurance policy, AD&D/STD/LTD, Employee Assistance Program, eligibility to participate in a 403(b) retirement plan with up to 5% company match after 6 months which is immediately vested, subsidized parking at the Columbus Commons Parking Garage and/or a free COTA C-Pass, and access to complimentary tickets to shows.Duties and ResponsibilitiesManages HR team of 2 professionals in delivering exceptional internal customer service to employees; responsible for HR staff’s performance, growth and development, and overall job satisfaction.Serves as Human Resources advisor to the President & CEO, the senior management team, and the Executive Directors of the applicable Shared Services organizations.Leads CAPA’s performance management strategy; Oversees performance activities including annual employee reviews, employee coaching and counseling, and performance improvement plans where applicable.Manages complex HR matters including terminations, workplace investigation, harassment and/or discrimination claims, employee accommodations, wage and labor disputes, and organizational structure changes.Responsible for talent management strategy; provides oversight in recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities.In coordination with the President and CEO, responsible for compensation management including evaluating and determining competitive and equitable job grades and salary ranges.Responsible for benefits program by evaluating benefits offerings and making recommendations; works with CAPA’s Employer Benefits Broker on medical insurance strategy and implementation.Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and labor laws including FLSA, FMLA, ACA, BWC, OSHA, EEOC, and ACA.Manages Payroll Accountant and has leadership oversight of payroll functions including bi-weekly payroll processing, ACA reporting, tax and W2 activities.Responsible for ensuring employees receive important, timely communication and updates regarding workplace matters; Oversees HR Corner news site.Works closely with the executive team on improving workplace engagement and organizational culture.Leads HR team in developing, updating, interpreting, and communicating workplace policies.Responsible for administering CAPA’s 403b plan including plan document and annual notices oversight.Works to Integrates principle of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into organizational policies and practices.Provides support to managers working with collective bargaining units.Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesWorking Knowledge and fundamental understanding of labor laws, HRIS systems, medical benefits, retirement plans, organizational development, compensation, and employee engagement.Excellent Interpersonal and Communication Abilities.Strong Writing, Public Speaking, and Financial Analysis Skills.Ability to listen to understand; Ability to coach managers and employees.Knowledge of payroll operations including timekeeping practices.Knowledge of Microsoft Products (Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams), Applicant Tracking System, and payroll technology (ADP preferred).Credentials and Experience5+ years' experience in Human Resources Management; Experience leading an HR department preferred.5+ years' experience handling hiring, onboarding, terminations, policy writing and implementation, coaching managers, organizational development; benefits administration.Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.Experience in a non-profit environment preferred.SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.CAPA's EEO StatementThe Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
