Position Summary

Senior Staff Accountant will report to the VP of Finance. This position will play an integral role in performing monthly, quarterly and annual financial analysis, month-end close process including, bank and account reconciliations, maintenance of fixed asset records and journal entries. This includes special projects as needed.

Focus should be given to understanding and helping ensure compliance with Common’s financial policies and internal accounting controls. Working with management, this position also will be expected to help implement principles that are geared towards improving business processes and procedures.

Education & Certification Requirements• Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field• 3- 5 years of accounting experience• CPA preferred

Experience & Training Requirements• Independent problem-solving and time management skills.• Working knowledge of Accounting Principles Generally Accepted in the US.• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including creation of pivot tables, v-lookups• Experience with Financial Edge, UKG, Kiss Flow, Neon and Salesforce preferred• Experience with non-profit accounting and federal compliance, preferred• Excellent verbal and written skills.

Essential Job Requirements & Duties• Prepare and review for accuracy monthly journal entries and account reconciliations including general ledger accounts as assigned.• Support compliance with required internal accounting controls in these areas and propose enhancements as identified. Support with ad hoc analysis and data validation will be as needed.• Develop a working knowledge of Commons various programs to add assistance to our grants team when needed.• Work as a finance team liaison with the various programs and departments, providing reporting, finance training, addressing financial questions as needed.• Prepare for review and submit various monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements that are in compliance with financial policies, procedures, stated deadlines and GAAP.• Work with the Finance team to provide and interpret timely financial analysis that helps the department leadership understand their operations, the overall business and drives financial results.• Perform back-up to the Accounts Payable process, requirements here include the processing of vendor payments, including ACHs, EFTs and manual check runs. Coordination of compliance with department expenditure authorization policy as required.• Perform revenue and receivable analysis on both a program and agency wide level• Regular review of expense reports for proper support and coordination of payable and payment issues with the remote Office Managers.• Daily posting and reconciling of cash receipts• Maintain fixed asset and capital budget subsidiary ledger. Ensure timely and accurate entry of all capital expenditures and disposals.• Assist in preparing and maintaining capital budget/capital plans. Reconcile to general ledger and prepare journal entries as necessary.• Lead finance staff in the preparation of audit work papers, cost report work papers, budget, and other projects and analysis as assigned.• Perform financial modeling and other analysis for various entities and services as assigned.• Oversee month-end close processes related mainly to the subadvisor expense accounting cycle such as review of journal entries and reconciliations performed by personnel. This includes effective review of work performed, ensuring deadlines are met, managing productivity, communicating expectations clearly and effectively, following up timely, and preparing evaluations of work performed.

Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
