Summary:

New Mexico State University Alamogordo invites applicants for a college-track faculty appointment to be filled at the Assistant Professor level beginning January 2025. This is a full-time, 9-month position in Graphic Design. (College-Track faculty will be eligible to be considered for advancement in rank but are not eligible for consideration for tenure. These faculty members serve the institution under a regular academic appointment with no predetermined termination date.)

Classification Summary: The faculty member's responsibilities include providing instruction, use of a learning management system (currently CANVAS), providing instruction for lecture, lab, internships and/or clinical classes. The instruction provided must be compliant with the New Mexico Common Core class requirements, regulations, policies and industry best practices, where applicable. Education and experience requirements include a minimum of an associate's degree in related field (or level of education required for the program). The faculty member is responsible for developing and maintaining strong partnerships with appropriate community stakeholders in support of new course development and college improvement initiatives. This individual promotes NMSU-Alamogordo's mission by providing quality learning opportunities within the diverse service area.

Classification Standard Duties: • Provide 15-credit hours of instruction per fall and spring semesters.• Maintain an on-campus presence, as required by policy and supervisory requirements.• Position responsibilities require leadership in both academic and/or workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals.• Participate in educational planning, student orientation and recruiting events, convocation, graduation, and other campus-wide or division/departmental events, as assigned by supervisor or VPAA.• Evaluate processes, subject matter area courses, and student performance.• Motivate and advise students.• Participate in the development and instruction of class/lab/simulation courses, selection of textbooks and educational resources, development of syllabi, course-level and program assessment and curricular revisions/changes.• Provide instruction in courses, labs, clinical and college and community activities that may be scheduled during the weekday, evenings, or weekends, depending on institutional needs. The potential exists for summer and overload instruction at additional compensation.• Participate as a member or chair on various committees and task forces.• Identify and communicate the need for supplies and equipment to meet program needs and goals.• Participate in professional development activities as assigned or personally identified.• Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).• Participate in course and program assessment and the program review process.• Obtain and maintain required licensure and/or certifications in subject matter fields.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

• Master of Arts Degree or Master of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design or closely related field.

• Familiarity with latest technologies and software that impact the Graphic Design classroom.

• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with other faculty and administration.

• Demonstrated interest in working with the community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to teach face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

• Ability to work with a diverse student population.

• Understanding of the community college mission and philosophy.

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Ability to use Windows and/or Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office word processing,

spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach 15 credits each semester in Graphic Design, including web-page design and video production.

• Teach weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid and off-campus.

• Instruct, support, advise and provide timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policy and procedures.

• Provide professional and public service.

• Maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities.

• Participate in educational planning, student orientation and recruiting events, convocation, graduation, and other campus-wide or division/departmental events, as assigned by supervisor or VPAA.

• Maintain an on-campus presence, as required by policy and supervisory requirements.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Record of excellence in teaching at the college level.

• Experience and / or training in designing and delivering video production courses.

• Experience in designing and delivering online courses.

• Professional experience in the Graphic Design industry.

Special Requirements of the Position

Flexible hours in order to participate in student orientation and recruiting events, convocation, graduation, and other campus-wide or division/departmental events, as assigned by their supervisor or VPAA.
