About Young Community Developers

Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. YCD’s philosophy is that every individual should have the right to sustainable and generational economic mobility, aiming to break the cycle of poverty. Each year YCD provides around 1,200 community members with employment and training services through their programs and partnerships. YCD is also proud to share that they have been voted by NonProfit Times as one of the top 50 best non-profits to work for in the United States!

Program Overview

The mission of Black Women Revolt against Domestic Violence (BWRADV) is to heal and transform Black families in San Francisco by raising awareness about intergenerational and domestic violence and providing culturally competent support and case management for Black women, girls, and families in crisis including those who are justice involved, in foster care, TAY, or unhoused. While our services prioritize Black women and their children and are rooted in Black spirituality and wellness practices, they are available to and sensitive to all who identify as women including cisgender, transgender, heterosexual, LGBTQ+, youth, and elders.

We operate a crisis hotline, a resource center, case management, survivor support, prevention education for youth and adults, training for advocates and professionals who encounter domestic violence survivors, and public engagement to increase communication within our community about DV and its impact on our families. Our services are supported by a complex budget that includes government grants, nonprofit grants, and individual donations.
