WXIA-TV (11Alive), the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Atlanta, works daily to improve the lives of our audience.

This is a newly created position to supervise and support the creation of year-round promotable content tied to our content pillars, uniquely Atlanta: safety, traffic/transportation, cost of living and community solutions.

Are you an experienced television editor/photojournalist ready to lead a highly talented team of special projects photographers and editors? We are seeking a person who can set the bar by example in creating promotable and unique content for television, website and our streaming platform, 11Alive+. The ideal candidate brings prior experience supervising the work of others, as well as giving regular feedback.

You must also be a lifelong learner, familiar with the latest editing software, tools and techniques as well as the latest photography and editorial standards. This is an exempt position reporting to the chief photographer with a dotted line to the director of special projects.

Responsibilities:

Work fulltime as a special projects photographer, contributing to both investigative and non-investigative projects.

Establish standards of excellence and accountability for members of the special projects team.

Produce original content on-air and on all digital platforms that evoke emotion and tell compelling stories. 11Alive is “one content team” so broadcast and digital share the stage equally.

Use creative production techniques such as graphics, drone photography and new forms of media (viewer pictures, virtual interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.

Assist chief photographer in mentoring 11Alive photojournalist and multi-skilled photojournalists to help them reach their fullest potential visually.

Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations.

Perform other tasks as required by chief photographer or director of special projects.

Requirements:

At least 8 years of news gathering experience preferred

College degree preferred

Experience in editing, photojournalism, and content management systems – preferably in a local TV news department environment.

Investigative experience, a plus.

Knowledge with non-linear edit systems, experience with Edius and Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere & After Effects) is a plus.

Experience with live news gathering tools like TVU, Dejero

Drone license, preferred

Excellent driving record

Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable

Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism

Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
