Program Coordinator

to coordinate, facilitate, and implement academic support services and student services for the new B.A. in Moral and Political Economy (MPE). These duties include but are not limited to assisting in registration, general program communications, scheduling classrooms as needed, and event planning for major related events. Responsibilities require significant collaboration with other members of the CES and SNF Agora faculty, staff, and students. The position also requires sensitivity to the interrelations of both people and functions across various departments and institutions across JHU campuses. We expect the Program Coordinator to work fully in-person.The Program Coordinator will also provide administrative support and perform program management and administrative duties for CES’ broader initiatives. This includes event planning for both Homewood and DC-based events; facilitating communication among students, faculty, staff, and external partners; and occasionally traveling for events.About the Center for Economy and Society and the B.A. program in Moral and Political EconomyThe B.A. program in Moral and Political Economy is a new interdisciplinary major that inspires students to think about economic problems in their social, cultural, moral, and political contexts. Students who join the MPE major are encouraged to think flexibly across social-scientific and humanistic disciplines in conceiving novel and integrated approaches to problems of ongoing social concern. Its curriculum includes an intensive two-semester introductory course, “Social Theories of the Economy”; a reading seminar; an independent research lab; introductory macro- and microeconomics, five electives; and a mandatory senior thesis. The MPE major admits students by application only.Within the Institute, the Center for Economy and Society is a multidisciplinary research and teaching initiative dedicated to reinvigorating debates about politics, economics, society and culture and identifying new possibilities for change. CES aims to establish itself as an intellectually diverse hub for cutting-edge political economy research and teaching. By facilitating engagement across a spectrum of views, CES aspires to serve as a wellspring for pioneering research and pedagogy that pushes the boundaries of political economy discourse.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesAdministrative SupportAssist with the management of the day-to-day operations of the MPE Major including academic program communication among students, faculty, and staff.Work closely with the Associate Director of CES and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the MPE Major on program projects and program management.Coordinate, develop, and recommend improvements for internal processes such as record keeping, forms control, and project management.Perform routine administrative duties such as scheduling, budget tracking, report preparation, expense reports, and invoicing.Performing other duties as assigned.Academic SupportWith oversight from the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Director, assist students with registration in required courses and coordinate with Registrar’s Office to facilitate enrollment.Prepare and distribute information to students about the MPE major, program services, and student-facing events.

Support student recruitment events such as information sessions and visit days.

Assist with and manage the administration of online application system for the MPE major.

Collaborate with SNF Agora Institute staff on MPE integration into wider institute programming.

Program Planning and CoordinationIdentify program operational requirements and utilize internal resources to meet program goals.Plan and coordinate events and functions such as academic workshops, dinner events, and conferences including those at the JHU Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., and the Homewood campus. Coordinate preparation, communication, set up, logistics, and follow-up for these events and functions.

Serve as a primary contact point for communication for internal faculty and external organizations.

Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or graduation equivalent.Five years progressively responsible related experience.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred QualificationsProficiency with Microsoft Office suite.Proven track record of managing multiple projects and calendars and meeting tight deadlines.Excellent interpersonal skills, responsiveness, and adaptability to changing program needs and priorities.Strong communication skills in writing; ability to work independently to create professional documents and correspondence with internal and external stakeholders.Detail-oriented and well-organized.Willingness to travel to events at various venues across the U.S.Experience in university student service.
