Since 1999, Chevy Chase Trust has provided wealth management to individuals, families and foundations using thematic investing in individual securities. Reporting to the Chief Fiduciary Officer, this position will provide internal legal support for the proper administration of Chevy Chase Trust’s fiduciary appointments as well as perform reviews of fiduciary account administration to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures. The position will also serve as an internal resource for a wide range of fiduciary-related responsibilities.Trust & Estate Paralegal, Duties & Responsibilities:

Support the activities of the Chief Fiduciary Officer in all certain legal matters, but primarily focusing on the proper administration of the firm’s fiduciary appointments in accordance with applicable regulations, internal policies/procedures and governing instruments.Review and analyze will and trust provisions.Prepare necessary probate and trust documents and notices for Maryland, DC and Virginia appointments.Prepare fiduciary inventories and accounts.Track status of Chevy Chase Trust’s trust and personal representative appointments.Work closely with outside counsel to ensure required petitions, filings and fiduciary accountings are completed.Provide support for preparation of Federal, Maryland and DC estate tax returns.Draft non-judicial settlement agreements, receipt, release, refunding and indemnification agreements.Maintain financial records of trusts and estates.Review and analyze estate planning documents, powers of attorney, probate and trust-related documents and provide guidance on administration.Work closely with Chevy Chase Trust Client Service Group to advise on and direct proper administration of the trusts and estates.Qualifications:

Strong organization skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail; and ability to work with clients in a stressful and sensitive situation.Additional skills include knowledge of accounting procedures, Maryland, DC and Virginia Code provisions relating to estates and trusts, filing procedures, local court probate rules and procedures.Understanding will and trust provisions is essential.Trust & Estate Paralegal, Selection Criteria:

Minimum of 5 years prior estate planning, trust and estate administration experience and appropriate educational background (e.g. paralegal certificate, bachelor’s degree) or equivalent.Strong knowledge of estate planning, incapacity planning, and wealth transfer strategies and administration of wide range of trusts including but not limited to revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, insurance trusts, special needs trusts.Experience with probate administration process in Maryland/District of Columbia/Virginia (preferred).Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the team while working independently and with autonomy.Strong organizational skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.Chevy Chase Trust is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
