Principal Consultant - Utility Regulatory Accountant
is responsible for analyzing and compiling financial data through multiple sources to support regulatory filings for investor-owned utility companies across mostly North America. This person will be responsible for utilizing the FERC uniform system of accounts to properly code several kinds of our utility clients' financial transactions. This person will also provide in-depth analysis of regulatory accounting principles and how they can be applied to other organizations.Responsibilities:Research, analyze and review financial transactions of several utility companies in accordance with the FERC's uniform system of accounts guidelines.Work with regulatory team members on various projects including ratemaking, cost of service, cost allocations, and revenue requirements.Run economic and financial models related to utility regulatory filings and financial data.Write reports, testimony, and create other documents including whitepapers and presentations related to regulatory filings and accounting principles.Stay current with legislation including federal, state and local requirements for regulatory accounting and FERC accounting practices.Prepare data in response to interrogatories or data requests from other parties.Requirements:Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance.Master's Degree or MBA preferred, CFA or CPA designations highly desirable.Minimum of 3 years experience working with utility regulatory accounting and/or FERC accounting guidelines, preferably either at a utility, FERC or at a consulting firm.Ability to research and analyze large financial data sets, and draw informed and sound conclusions.Ability to write analysis and use cited documentation to support a position or provide other written recommendations to utility clients.Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills.This position could be located in our Marlborough, MA headquarters, our office in Washington, DC, or fully remote. Our in-office employees work a hybrid model, with flexibility to work from home two days a week.Depending on the level hired, the base salary for this role will typically fall between $94,600 to $151,000 plus annual incentive compensation bonus.We are looking for employees who are collegial and collaborative, enjoy working in a team environment, and have the ability to also operate independently. We need people with strong attention to detail and organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize your own workload, while maintaining accuracy, consistency and confidentiality.
