Role Summary:

Picarro is seeking a Test Engineer to participate and drive the testing and development of the next generation of laser-based analytical instrumentation that will be capable of highly sensitive and accurate measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These novel and transformative instruments will be deployed in a variety of applications, from semiconductor manufacturing to industrial emissions monitoring to air quality. The Test Engineer will work with the R&D team to enable their acquisition of data on new VOCs, as well as collaborate with system engineers to produce new test stations, and execute the tests required for performance validation and production. Experience with analytical instrumentation and optical spectroscopy strongly desired. Strong experimental and data analysis skills are required.

The position will offer many opportunities and continuous intellectual challenges as you participate in design and build of test stations, procedures, and analysis of data for our high-performance instruments. You will:

Build, test, and troubleshoot gas handling systems.

Design new gas delivery systems.

Run experiments, modify gas delivery systems with parameters specified by spectroscopists / technical leads.

Perform data workup from experiments; present and discuss results engineering staff.

Be able to understand and communicate failures found to engineering staff.

Purchase equipment and materials (e.g. tubing, regulators, lasers, mass flow controllers) as needed.

Must-have qualifications:

B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field / equivalent experience. A graduate degree is a plus.

Experience with conducting experiments, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.

Be able to physically lift 50 pounds.

Ability to work across functional boundaries to encompass working with R&D and systems engineering.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Extremely organized, quality and detail oriented, with an ability to multi-task in a fast-paced agile environment.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

Experience with gas delivery systems, flow measurement and control.

Experience with developing software to interface with and control laboratory equipment.

Experience with data analysis in python.

What we offer:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $71,000 - $110,000 k USD. Your base salary and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, and knowledge, level, and pay of other employees in similar positions.
