The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric nurse practitioner provides psychiatric treatment and interventions in accordance with the established inpatient program for Children and Adolescents with cooccurring psychiatric and medical disorders at Nexus Children's Hospital. They work within the interdisciplinary treatment team and coordinate the care of the master treatment plan with direct supervision by the attending psychiatrist through effective team collaboration, ongoing assessment, and direct patient care.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs complete initial psychiatric examination and regular follow up assessments throughout the week of patients by means of interviewing, gathering of collateral information, review of health history, and mental status examination.Under the supervision of the attending psychiatrist, develops, monitors and documents individualized psychiatric treatment goals and objectives for each patient as part of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.Provides evidence based psychopharmacological management and monitors other clinical therapeutic intervention in accordance with the patient's interdisciplinary treatment plan and the behavioral health program.Provides and shares on-call coverage by phone with the Nexus Physician Group for psychiatric emergencies to patient's admitted to the Nexus Health SystemProvides timely and adequate documentation and orders for all patient encounters.Under the supervision of the attending psychiatrist, effectively collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team, which consists of physicians, physical rehabilitation therapists, psychotherapists, case management, nursing and other clinical support services to formulate the treatment plan and assess the ongoing effectiveness of the interventions.Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the program is adhering to its guidelines and providing effective care to the patients in the program.Actively participates in discharge planning, documentation and orders to transition patient from the hospital to the next level of care.Participates in ongoing program development meetings to assess the efficacy of current programs.Participates and provides psychiatric updates in regularly scheduled team conferences with the interdisciplinary team for all patients in the program.Provides staff members formally and informally with psychoeducation and other effective clinical strategies for caring for individuals with behavioral and medical issues.Attends meetings with guardians, referral sources and payers on a regular basis to improve patient outcomes and to coordinate care of the patientComplete billing sheets on a weekly basis and provide to hospital administratorPerforms other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:•Master's in nursing as NP or master's degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

EXPERIENCE:•Preferably three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a psychiatric nurse practioner

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:•Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse•Current Texas Advance Practice Registered Nurse licensure (APRN-NP)

§Certified in BLS Current certification and in good standing during employment

§Attend behavioral management and de-escalation techniques training as required by the facility.•Certification in behavior management or related (SAMA, ABA, PIP, etc.)
