Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse is a member of the Behavioral Health team, which includes our Care Management unit, our Treatment Services clinic, our MHOTRS, the Better Living Center, and our Transitional Services department (HIV+ impacted). The RN conducts basic medical assessments including vital signs, places laboratory orders in the Quest portal, draws blood on occasion, arranges for Quest to pick up specimens, administers long-acting antipsychotic intramuscular injections, monitors clients during occasional Suboxone inductions, conducts HIV and Hep C point-of-care oral swab tests, maintains medication logs, and assists clients and staff with general medical inquiries/needs.

Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the RN is a member of an active, collaborative team and attends two weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings on client cases and administrative/programmatic updates. The RN provides basic health education during medical assessments and participates in occasional client groups. The RN also assists clients with linkages to primary care or to our care management unit. This is an on-site position.

Clinical ExpertiseThe successful candidate will be comfortable working with vulnerable populations and related medical conditions due to health inequity. The candidate will be competent in drawing blood, administering intramuscular injections, checking vital signs, providing health-related education and administering first aid.

Clinical Engagement & Productivity Skills

This role is participant-facing, so the candidate must be skilled at establishing rapport with individuals who may distrust medical providers. The ability to obtain a thorough medical history, in a respectful, trauma-informed manner is necessary. The successful candidate will be flexible, where possible, with clients who come at unscheduled times. However, when required, the RN candidate will be empowered to set limits. The RN will be creative in developing strategies to maximize client engagement and utilization of his/her services.

Personal Organization, Time Management and DocumentationThe successful candidate will be organized, efficient, and a multitasker. S/he must be comfortable with EHRs/technology and must document all client encounters accurately and in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

ADN or BSN degree from an accredited nursing program.NYS Nursing License and active registration.Familiarity with medical conditions commonly found in disadvantaged persons, including those with mental illness or substance use disorders.2+ years of experience in an outpatient clinic setting is desired.Some work or internship experience with clients who have mental illness, a history of trauma, or a history of incarceration is ideal.Strong computer skills, particularly in electronically entering case notes;Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.We seek talented, dedicated individuals from all walks of life who possess a strong commitment to this mission. Travel Requirements - While this position is based in Fortune Society's main Long Island City facility, it may require occasional site visits to Fortune's Harlem or Bronx locations.
