Purpose of the Job:

This position is responsible for diagnosing, prescribing medication, providing ongoing treatment, monitoring medication side effects, and participating in the treatement process clients in an outpatient clinic licensed and regulated by the New York Office of Mental Health.

Essential Functions:

(All functions are essential unless noted otherwise)Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. The scope of services inlcudes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorders.Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the regulations and scope of practice.Collaborate with therapists, medical director, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, and outcome measures.Counsel clients during appointments, as necessary.Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating trauma informed and best practices into treatment interventions.Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client's conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.)as required.Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary).Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients.Records all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations. Submits billing documents in a timely fashion.Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Provides teaching and education to clinical staff, if requested.Actively participate in all agency and department education, training and in-services to confirm understanding of new information or changes to established clinical policies and procedures.Performs other resonable duties within the scope of practice as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be a licensed NPP in New York State. In addition, the NPP must hold a current and valid DEA license to prescribe medication. The candidate must be cleared by the Office of Mental Health, Office of Medicaid Inspector General and the Statewide Central Database as well as any other Agency required clearances. The Psychiatric NP must have a minimum of 2 years of practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Supervisory Responsibilites:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

While performing this job, the employee is occasionally requred to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and or move objects up to 25lbs. Specific vision required by the job includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
